Very, very good point. I used to use a Boss NS2. Its decay flat out sucked. The Decimator pro rack is amazing. It suppresses up AND down strokes, and knows the difference. Definitely the best NR out there. I guess its also why its almost 500 bucks. Totally worth it, IMO. |

MOGAMI all the way! blue said: ALL HAIL TEH ALMIGHTY GEAR SNOBBERY There are a few issues with the ENGL that make me go the route that I do. The first thing is that the built in Noise Gate is not organic enough, AT ALL. The fact that it has a built in Noise Gate leads me naturally to my next point. The reason why there is a built in noise gate is that without it, the ENGL is obnoxiously noisy and almost unplayable at loud volumes. I got the ISP because it is the only supressor that can actually kill the noise on the ENGL without it sounding like someone switched off the circuit, cutting off chords or notes held for a long interval, etc. The other issue about the ENGL is that in a non-miced environment a lot of the amps positives become it's negative. It is a very smooth, high gain amp. It is one of the things I love about it. However, to get a quality mid-cut out of it, you end up losing a lot of overall tone. So, my solution was to continue running my Dual in tandem with it at a lower volume. It sort of picks off where the ENGL leaves off in big rooms. About the a/b stuff. I have been contemplating cutting out the Mesa part of my rig. And for club shows, I only use the ENGL with the a/b still so that I can keep my tuner out of the ENGL's loop. (By the way, the tuner is never in the ENGL's loop, I keep it in the Mesa loop because it's lower volume and really only there to carry my parts further in the room). I need to have the tuner at my beck and call live because of the fact that I don't play a Floyd and it does go out of tune. I understand that there is a slight effect on my signal because of this. But I also understand that other people listening really don't care about that. By the way, I have played straight into the amp, and it is just a subtle difference. I am thinking about only running the ENGL alone today in practice and trying that out, but still through both cabs of course. |

_______________________________________ [Jan 13,2007 1:32pm - brian_dc nli ""] pushed my 2 cabs with just the ENGL at practice last night and I definitely am liking that better than the two amp combination. This means that I need to find a use for the Mesa...I don't want to sell because I do love that amp. Normally I don't like Mesa's and I managed to buy one that I like when I was 18...I also think there is a sentimental attachment. I do have a spare Ampeg 4x12...I could have an incredibly excessive practice amp! |

This amp delivers sounds ranging from the Classic 50 to vintage British to the modern Triple XXX and all tones inbetween. The versatile and comprehensive control section supplies a master volume pot and independent volume knobs for each of the 3 channels (Ultra, Crunch and Clean). Tone shaping is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra and Crunch channels utilize active low, mid and high controls. The Clean channel is pristine yet warm and is specifically voiced to work well with effects pedals. The Ultra and Crunch channels have gain controls and fat switches to further assist in taming this thunderous tube-powered beast while achieving killer sound.Global resonance and presence knobs increase control of high-end tones, while a noise gate on the Crunch and Ultra channels cuts down on the excess noise generated by running the gain and EQ controls on high settings. Since the gate is fully adjustable, you can really clamp down, leave it slightly open or just turn it off. Features 120 watts into 16, 8, or 4 ohms (switchable) Four EL34s and four 12AX7s Power amp switchable to use EL34s or 6L6GSs Three footswitchable channels Clean channel: volume, bass, mid, treble Crunch channel: gain and volume, bass, mid, treble EQ and FAT switch Ultra channel: gain and volume, bass, mid, treble EQ and FAT switch Noise gate control for both distortion channels Master volume Footswitchable effects loop with send and return controls Resonance and Presence controls Line out with level control Footswitch included |
