There are a shitload of programs that the majority of the working poor would no longer need with a living wage, saving the government even more money or allowing them to put more money toward the people, such as the elderly or disabled who really need the programs. A living wage would lift working poor out of poverty allowing more of their income to be taxed (or allowing more tax cuts since there are fewer programs to support). It also creates more jobs since one job would cover household expenses rather than people working two jobs to cover expenses. |
