who has a decent guitar for sale?[views:20931][posts:168]_______________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 10:47pm - ArrowHeadNLI ""] I bought my nephew the SX short scale strat off the first page. I just held onto the trem bar, so it's essentially a fixed bridge til I decide he can handle a whammy without snapping off all his strings playing "guitar hero". If you want her to have a bucker, that natty spad that martins just bought is pretty awesome. It's essentially a schecter blackjack for $150. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 10:48pm - ArrowHeadNLI ""] no tone circuit = tone at 10+. Just having the circuit there, even dialed to 10, tapers off a little top end. |
___________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 11:14pm - powerkok ""] Ya that Spad is real nice. Maybe even too nice for a first guitar, but I will strongly consider it. Thanks a lot for all yer help Arrow....and I just noticed that youre sign in name is NLI. LULLIGANS!! |
______________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 11:24pm - xanonymousx ""] when you guys set up what does that mean... i forget haha i know i had my guitars set up by someone else. |
___________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 11:39pm - powerkok ""] intonation, action, relief, pickup height, tighten screws, etc. |
___________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 11:46pm - brian_dc ""] I really want this guitar but do not have sufficient funds [img] |
___________________________________ [Jul 16,2008 11:47pm - brian_dc ""] holy shit huge pic um....I'm leaving it |
_________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:04am - Martins ""] ArrowHeadNLI said:Martins, here's that clip of the Fat Pats. The first time through each riff is a Seymour Duncan JB pickup. The second time through each riff is the GFS Fat PAT. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songI...fo.cfm?bandID=726882&songID=6724962 Holy shit. There's like no difference. I think I might go with the Fat PAT in the bridge...but what should I go for if I want a warmer sounding neck? Question for you. You seem like you would know. I haven't looked at how to wire a pickup since I did my Schecter almost two years ago. If I wanted to wire the tone knob out, would I just solder the two wires that would have been for the tone knob together? I think I want to do that and then move the volume pot down to where the tone knob is now and just leave the tone knob on connected to a pot that isn't in use. |
_________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:08am - Martins ""] brian_dc (nice name I myself am a Brian), that guitar looks pretty nice. I love the look of natty's but i FUCKING HATE THAT NECK. I had to say it. Maple fretboards are one of the ugliest things to happen to guitars. I just can't stand them. Maple neck okay...though I'd prefer a darker wood...but stay away from my fretboard!! |
______________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:21am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] Yeah, I just wired up the scheme from the seymour duncan site for three humbuckers (1 HB and 2 stacked rails) with a push pull, and left out the tone circuit. |
______________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:22am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] Wheres pics of that natty spad? |
_________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:22am - Martins ""] So I would just solder the two wires together instead of hook them to the tone pot? Also which is supposed to give the brighter sound: higher resistance pots or lower resistance pots? |
______________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:31am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] You just don't wire the tone pot. The wires on the tone pot is a hot from the volume pot and the output, I believe. It's late, don't hold me to it. I'm pretty much a dumbass unless I download a schematic. |
_________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:34am - Martins ""] Wait lol. You're probably right. I'll check out a wiring diagram and figure it out. It's late and I'm drunk on roxicet. |
______________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:35am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] Tomorrow I'll find the actual schematic I used and scan it if I can. |
_________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 2:37am - Martins ""] I'm looking at a wiring diagram for my Schecter and the tone pot is wired to each pickup by a red wire for each. |

Maple neck okay...though I'd prefer a darker wood...but stay away from my fretboard!! Different strokes, I suppose. I love the maple neck. And a maple neck on a Les Paul style guitar is such a different look, it's one of the things that attached me to this guitar. I played one awhile back and loved it but forgot what the hell model it was called....probably on purpose since I was hell bent on a new amp Then recently I noticed Sacha from Intronaut playing one. He posts on Lambgoat so I was able to ask him what model it was...and now my obsession has rekindled...the end |
___________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 10:17pm - powerkok ""] I ordered a Douglas Shadow (csb) for the kiddo. Its alder so its a bit lighter, and for the price, is a SWEET first electric. I also could not resist getting the Agile AL-2000 tiger eye. Now It needs to get here so I can get off that damn website for a few days!! hahaha. I cant link pics on ps3 (gay) but Two sweet looking and hopefully playing, Les Pauls, shipped, for $349!!! WHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT???????? |
__________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 10:31pm - Martins ""] Haha. I hate the look of those Les Paul styles. I don't know what it is but the fat body and pick guard really turn me off. My next guitar from them will be the Septor 6 or an Interceptor 7 string. I'm really surprised by the decent quality of this Douglas so I'd definitely be interested in seeing the quality of an Agile. Here are some pics of my Douglas. http://s342.photobucket.com/albums/o432/gtrbmart/Douglas%20Natural%20Spad/ |
___________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 10:36pm - powerkok ""] Nice, I will check them out. hahaha 10 years ago I wouldve agreed 100%, but I have owned almost every shape of guitar there is, and never a LP, so this is a good choice for myself. How many days did it take to get to you, and where do they ship from? |
___________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 10:37pm - archaeon ""] haha i was wondering why my guitar stand was there! |
___________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 10:38pm - powerkok ""] OH BTW...theres a septor 7 string in bstock for 499 I think. But its purple. says it has a 1/4 inch chip on the upper back. |
__________________________________ [Jul 17,2008 11:06pm - Martins ""] Yeah I saw that but I can't throw down that money right now. I need to do all the mods to this one first. If I buy a seven string it will be after my family forgets that I bought a guitar. (They take my money very seriously.) Anyway, they ship from New Jersey I think. It took 2 and a half days for them to ship. Once you get the UPS tracking number it's about a day away. Well maybe two days for you. |
______________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 1:55am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] They ship from NH. They used to be in NJ, but they moved a while back. I'm glad your guitar is nice, I can definitely understand wanting to mod it out and swap hardware. That's the beauty of this price range, a lot of alterations we'd normally avoid become affordable. I can NEVER stand to leave a guitar 100% original. |
_________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 2:06am - Martins ""] Ya, I'm pretty happy. I'm putting new strings on it tomorrow and I think I'm going to order the pickups as well. What would you say to a fat PAT in both the bridge and the neck? |
______________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 6:24am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] That would sound pretty good. I've got a Fat PAT in the neck of my V, it sounds good. |
_________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 3:25pm - Martins ""] Well I ordered two Fat Pats with the chrome cover plate and all the hardware except for mounting rings. Now I just need to find reasonably priced chrome tuning machines and mounting rings! Oh I went 1-meg ohms with the volume pot. I can't wait to hear how bright it's going to be because this guitar is pretty damn warm sounding. Almost too warm. |
_________________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 4:19pm - Frank Shamrock ""] These Rondo guitars have me intrigued. Curious guys, how would you compare these DFS pickups to say an EMG81... I'm thinking of building some crunchy shred machines out of an Agile or Douglas. These guitars almost seem too good to be true. |
_________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 4:25pm - Martins ""] My experience around EMG pickups (I've never owned any or really spent time messing around on them) isn't the best. I just never liked them. OMG CHECK OUT MY WICKED OUTPUT AND SHIT. Oh, okay. |
______________________________ [Jul 18,2008 5:08pm - blue ""] exactly, ive never had a use for ultra high output. i use high gain amps as it is, why the flying fuck would i want all of that compression? oh yeah cus i play sikkkkkkkk metal and for some reason i think that its the only thing that i could possibly use. |
______________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 6:20pm - ArrowHeadNLI ""] Martins said:Well I ordered two Fat Pats with the chrome cover plate and all the hardware except for mounting rings. Now I just need to find reasonably priced chrome tuning machines and mounting rings! DOH! They sell really cheap tuners and chrome rings at guitarfetish, dude. I just ordered black tuners, bridge and tail for my paul, as well as chrome rings. |
______________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 6:21pm - ArrowHeadNLI ""] EMG's are gay, they don't even make zebras. ;) |
__________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 11:21pm - Martins ""] Lul. After you told me that some of the other stuff they sell there was fishy, I just didn't look at any of the other sections. Lol sweet <3 I can't wait to start modding this guitar when all the stuff comes next week! |
___________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 11:22pm - powerkok ""] EMG 81 has great attack. Its for metal. thats all, their 'tone' is pretty horrible for anything else. But they rule for chugga riffs. You guys are just JB sluts!! Keene NH UPS destination scan 25 hours after I ordered. Thats fuckin fast. |
__________________________________ [Jul 18,2008 11:46pm - Martins ""] I'm not even a Seymour Duncan kinda guy. I have DiMarzios in my Schecter. This will be my second experience with non-stock pickups and I can't wait because I'm a nerd and shit. Oh and if EMG 81 is metal and all metal is gay then all EMG 81's are gay. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 12:22am - Joshtruction ""] I use dimarzio X2N's in the bridge. Mega high output and very very low noise. That means they did something right! Sounds killer too. I am debating on selling one of my soloist to help pay for the shit I am doing with NEDF. Killing me and crunch time is here! |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 2:20am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] My main guitar for 15 years or so has an 81 and an 85 in it. I was never all that impressed with them, but since it was all I knew I never knew WHY. After I popped a JB into my jackson, and started playing with all these other options I'll never use an active pickup again. It's like all these modern albums: You get a way WAY hotter signal, but at the expense of all the wonderful dynamic range. Now, I really see NO difference between using EMGs and just sticking a compression pedal in front of your amp. I'm going to refrain from doing either. |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 2:35am - ArrowHeadNLI ""] Martins, here's the one I got all the hardware from GFS. The PG is from greasygroove, and the knobs are sweetwater. Everything else is from GFS. [img] |

__________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 10:03am - Martins ""] Joshtruction said:I use dimarzio X2N's in the bridge. Mega high output and very very low noise. That means they did something right! Sounds killer too. I have an X2N in my Schecter's bridge and I definitely don't know what you're talking about low noise haha. That thing has a higher output than Mark Richard's mom and I always get feedback. Even through low gain Fenders amps. At least it's not microphonic. It's a pretty good pickup but it lacks a lot of dynamics. It picks up everything you do but it's not necessarily warm or necessarily bright...it's just there. Which is why I'm excited to get the Fat PATs if they're anything like what ArrowHead is saying. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 12:09pm - Joshtruction ""] interesting. I never get any feedback. Thats what I mean by quiet. I really have to provoke my guitar to get feedback. If you wanna be a pick up snob I suggest bare knuckle pick ups. amazing but real expensive. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 12:24pm - NoodleFace ""] If you want something better than BKPs you could try Lundgrens too, I think they're $300-400 per pickup. Personally I've had a ton of different pickups. I mainly use Dimarzio's now but that's because of the woods in most of my guitars. I had EMGs once and they were alright, I just didn't like what they did to my tone. Can definitely see why people use them though. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 12:27pm - Joshtruction ""] I remember for like a week straight you loved EMG's, then you plugged back into your passive guitar and never went back haha. I am still not convinced Lungrens are better than BKP. |
_________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 6:03pm - Martins ""] I've heard a lot about Bare Knuckle and one day I will own a guitar with a pair in them. I've been hearing even more about APC (Adder Plus C...ompany?) pickups and I'm curious to hear more about those. |
______________________________ [Jul 19,2008 6:24pm - blue ""] id like to eventually try a BK holy diver and an adder plus persuader custom. but itll be a long time until i spend anything over $70 for a pickup. |

_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 7:01pm - xanonymousx ""] i can't believe gibson and fender and shit haven't stopped rondo from selling shit.... didn't gibson get rid of PRS's single cutback back in the day? and the pickups are the same as these other companies probably cause its the 'market basket brand' so you get more for your dollar. |
_________________________________ [Jul 19,2008 7:57pm - Martins ""] Honestly the pickups that came with my $150 aren't that bad. Clearly they could be way better but they do the job and the guitar already doesn't sound bad. And there are Gibson and Fender copies made everywhere. It's not like Rondo is anything special for that. It's not like they're slapping the Gibson or Fender name on there. |
