I just got this yesterday. So far it's okay, but not what I consider a FF game at all. Combat is simplified, everything so far IS completely linear, and half the characters so far are annoying as FUCK.
But I gotta ask what's up with the Japanese racism? I mean, a BLACK GUY who hides a CHICKEN in his AFRO? That's racist, man.

FFXlll is not bad its a good game BUT its not a Final Fantasy. Its Final Fanatsy Lite.The graphics though on the PS3 are the best graphics I've ever seen for a game.

Oh man, this guy annoys me. He does a little gay dance at the end of battles, and there's the damned chicken living in his hair. What a douche. At least you don't have to play AS him.
The story is pretty good so far, but I admit I can only follow some of it. Not sure how much will eventually be explained, and how much is me just being too stupid to get it. I had the same issue with both FF movies, but ironically I followed FF7 and FF8 with no problems.

watching my wife play this game, I would hate playing it, story/fight story/fight. The music is very Shwarzeneggar, I imagine him cruising up on the beach ala COMMANDO when I hear it

XIII was whatever. I liked the battle system.
Just beat IX over the weekend. Good.
Started playing Tactics but it's so god damn slow-moving.

I agree. This game is terrible. It makes you run on a fixed path with cinematic interludes that have no dialog worth paying attention to ("Moms are tough"), convoluted story that I had to piece together from reading the chapter summaries, and beautiful real-time cinematics of the LAMEST FF characters ever, which is quite an achievement considering the FF character history.
I played it for a couple hours or so and it seems like a demo of a new Final Fantasy battle system, which isn't terrible, just boring as hell. I loved what I played of FF 7, 8, and 9, but this game is just too linear to be called Final Fantasy. Maybe I should play it more?

I understand that FFT is tactical and it's an old game. I have no problem with that. Maybe it's because I just started and nothing interesting is happening yet. I'll give it another shot tonight.

Have you ever played the original Wild Arms or Wild Arms II?
Also, If you have a chance, play Golden Sun I&2 for GBA. And if FFT is too slow for you ( game gets really fucking hard) try some easier Tactical games like Ogre Tactics for SNES, Shining Force I&2 for Genesis, or the two Fire Emblem games that came out in America on GBA (highly recommended). I think they have translated roms for other ones but I don't follow that crap anymore.

I've played the Golden Suns. I LOVE them. So excited for the DS sequel.
I've played Tactics Ogre a bit and I remember liking it but it's been a while. Never played a Fire Emblem game.

I have the old DragonQuest game for PSX and another for Gameboy. Didn't so much for me. I remember them saying how it was the most popular RPG in Japan at the time.
