On a more serious note, I can't believe people feel the need to shoot people in schools. Why can't they just deal with their problems through counseling or something?

Yeah, I agree, they need to just quit their crying. All the I have no friends crybaby bullshit is for faggots. Start drinking or something.

We are born to kill. It's a cultural thing. Canada has just as many guns per capita, but do they have the same gun violence here in the US? Born to kill. Raised to slaughter.

If they didn't have such fucking lax gun laws in VA and adopted our communistic (but highly regulated) guns laws here in MA - this would have never happened. Period. To get an FID card (where you can't own pistols only rifles and shotguns) it takes over a month and you pay $100 along with an interview and an extensive background check. They would never give one to this bozo who was on anti-depressants. Believe me, I am all about the 2nd Amendment, but being able to buy a 9mm because you have a VA drivers license is crap. What would stop al qaeda rag heads from getting handguns? The 19 hijackers had like 50+ licenses between them all.

If I remember right, he used a .22 and a Glock 9

Yeah, I just checked, I was right... He used a 22 and a Glock 9. And no wonder he blew his face off afterwards- can we say... premeditated??? If he had survived, escaped, been caught, whatever- he was definitely gonna fry for this one. Temporary insanity? I think not.

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1611169,00.html?cnn=yes

"According to a Roanoke, Va., news site, a police affidavit says Cho possessed Walther P22 and Glock 9 mm handguns — both expensive, accurate guns favored by gun enthusiasts and cops. One federal source told TIME it appears that as many as "a couple of hundred" rounds were fired during the rampage. Cho's extraordinary killing effectiveness suggests someone who was trained, or who trained himself, in "execution-style" killing, according to the federal source.
Cho bought his first gun, the 9 mm, on March 13, a source told ABC. The Walther was purchased just last week. Virginia law prohibits buying more than one handgun in a 30-day period. It appears Cho waited the full month before buying the Walther, suggesting he didn't just snap. According to the Virginia State Police, as an alien with a green card, Cho would have been able to buy guns legally as long as he provided proof of his residence. "

I haven't watched TV news in years. I occasionally read a newspaper or check the news online, but this thread really illustrates the power the media has over the American mind. Why do you all care so much? Is it the body count?

[Apr 18,2007 11:50am - ValkyrieScreams ""]
On another note, so many of the victims were soooo young. Its really sad (to me at least) to read comments by peoples' friends that say, "Hey! Please call us so we know you're okay," knowing now that they are in fact, very far from being okay. Damn.

I wonder what Cho's parent's are thinking & going through. It's gotta be pretty fucked up to learn your kid did something like this. It's easy to feel sympathetic for the victims and the victims' parents, but seriously... I can't imagine the horror and disbelief that the shooter's parents must be feeling. How do you even express that? In a way, they're not even allowed to grieve for the death of their son in the usual way. It doesn't matter to anyone how "normal" or "happy" their family was. It seems that our society would expect them to be as disgusted with their own child as everyone else is. Are they supposed to hate him for what he did? Now all that remains for them is sadness tainted by shame. I wonder if they ever even knew he was fucked in the head...? I have a Korean roommate who, in one of our many conversations about cultural differences and such, has told me that it is 100% unacceptable for a Korean male to show any signs of emotion whatsoever... Hmmm.... Just wondering.

Body count, yes, probably...
But I'd say it is more the fact that this happened in a school setting, a place we generally associate with safety, hope and the foundation for our future. This did not happen in a war zone. These bodies were not casualties of gang disputes. They were not participating in any reckless behavior. The fact that has captured everyone's attention and that will always capture people's attention, is that the victims happen to meet our cultural standard for innocence. That is to say, they did not deserve to die. Whether or not it is fair or correct to do so, the public eye almost always makes a judgment about every "victim" just as quickly as it makes a decision about the perpetrator of the crime. If the public thinks that the victim was doing something... or anything even far reached... that contributed to their victimization, they tend to get the brush-off. Personally, I think it is precisely this phenomenon (the reaction) that interests me so much about something like this.

Someone on this board already brought this up, as did Keith Olbermman last night, but more than 32 people were killed in Iraq this past weekend, over 150 today, and there was no moment of silence in Congress for them, no government press conference, no flags at half mast, nothing. It's like your death means nothing unless you're american and it happens here. Now we've got 3 days of this and counting on the news and everyone is already forgetting about those 5 million missing e-mails.

Gun control doesn't work......just look at Mass.......

As an avid outdoorsman and gun freak, you take guns away from law abiding citizens and criminals will rule the streets. Only the most simple of minds could fathom this as a solution. Guns don't kill people.....people kill people. Wake up.

Criminals will always find a way to perpetuate a crime.

There were criminals and mass murderers before black powder was invented.

yeah, and criminals will still drive unegistered cars with no licenses.
does that mean you don't register your car and don't get a license?
no.
does that mean you get rid of the deed to your house?
no.

when even a shitbag like bill o'reilly wants something like gun registration and a few other rules, it's probably a good idea.

He looks like this kid I used to be friends with who I ended up distancing myself from because I realized he was a fucking lunatic. It's either he looks just like him or it is actually true that all Asians look alike.

Hoser has got a good point. I couldn't believe that all you need is a driver's license to get a 9mm in VA but regardless of that fact it really wasn't the guns fault - it was the fault of a twisted prick faggot who couldn't handle the inevitable downsides that come and go in ones life. I think it was the rev who said it ( I could be wrong ) but if he hadn't access to the guns his sick and twisted mind would have still thought about doing it.

Hahahahaha, Michael Savage was just saying that this asshole "should have been hit by a cement truck" before he had the chance to kill people.

The issue of guncontrol is one that could go around in circles for ever. Suppose there was no gun control, and that anyone could have a gun, and anyone could carry it with them anywhere they wanted. This would probably happen more often cause anyone could get a gun at anytime, anywher, but every time a lunatic like this tried to kill people someone would be there to shoot him down before it could go far. Now, on the other hand, if the second amendment were amended, and citizens were no longer allowed to own firearms for any reason, sure, this would happen a lot less often, but you could still get guns on the black market, and when it did happen, people would have no defense against it. America's somewhere in between, varying depending on what state you're in, and it doesn't seem to have any bearing on anything. Personally, I think the only solution to gun-violence is to go back in time and prevent guns from ever existing somehow, haha.

I'm planning on killing someone. But, it would be illegal to have a gun in my possession, so I'm not going to do it.

See, I hate guns, I'm terrified of them, and, like the Rev, feel really uncomfortable around them and wish they never existed. But, when it comes down to it, humans suck, and guns are just one of the many ways that humans use to kill each other. If he couldn't get a gun, he probably would have bombed the place, blocked the doors and set it on fire, or, I don't know, just started throwing bowling balls at peoples' heads.
