NotCommon Records on permanant hiatus[views:115658][posts:420]_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 9:52am - Joe/NotCommon ""] As of monday morning, I put my record label on hiatus. Bugs and Rats is coming out, that ball was already rolling and I will work on it. It's a great record and I hope some of you are able to check it out. All other releases scheduled (Raising Kubrick/The Taste of Silver split, Sonic Obliteration, Kevorkian's Angels, and new Conifer) are not going to happen, as NC releases anyway. Thank you to everyone who supported what I was doing these last few years, I had alot of fun with it. I will continue to book metal shows, but on a much smaller basis then I have been, probably at most, 1 show per month. Metalcore is and will always be fucking gay. |
______________________________ [Jul 19,2005 9:54am - nate ""] no way, first Bostons Dead stops and then Jess stops Heavy Rotation and now Joe??? NOOOOOOOOOOO! |
_______________________________ [Jul 19,2005 9:55am - hoser ""] This is terrible news, Joe. |
_________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:22am - iFart ""] ooooohhh, big suprise and really no loss to anyone. in fact we're better off without someone as negative as you in the scene around boston. [img] sweeeeet news! |
___________________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:23am - DaveFromTheGrave ""] which one is your girlfriend? |
_______________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:24am - nate ""] actually it's pretty shitty news, a few years back there was no scene, due to Joe and a select few others the scene has grown... I see the scene taking a good size hit for this horrendous news... |
______________________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:35am - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] This is sad news, sorry to hear it Joe. |
_________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:40am - iFart ""] the scene will be better off, you'll see. there will always be people putting on shows. |
______________________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:42am - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] He didn't say he was going to stop putting on shows...just less of them. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:43am - babyshaker ""] no more intersting fliers in brooks? |

_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:49am - Jesus_Slaves ""] yeah joe from not common records isnt exactly the backbone of the scene. and there was much rejoicing. yay. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:50am - paganmegan ""] This is sad indeed I'm worried about lack of shows and opportunities for metal |
_______________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:52am - nate ""] Jesus_Slaves said:yeah joe from not common records isnt exactly the backbone of the scene. and there was much rejoicing. yay. no he's not the backbone but he was at least 4-5 vertabrae which helped keep shit strong for a while... you'll all see, you're happy now that he's slowing down, but wait a few months and you'll all be complaining about the lack of shows and how there'll be nothing to do, quote me on that! |

__________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:56am - Anthony ""] Jesus_Slaves said:yeah joe from not common records isnt exactly the backbone of the scene. and there was much rejoicing. yay. Are you being sarcastic or something? Joe probably did more for good local bands than any other single person. Not to mention all the awesome touring bands that he has gotten to come through the local bars. This really sucks for metal in Boston and NE in general. Good luck with whatever's next Joe, thanks for all the awesome help you've given these past few years. |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 10:58am - succubus ""] it does suck, joe put a lot into the scene, glad to see that he will still be doing shows |
____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:03am - dreadkill ""] say it ain't so, joe. say it ain't so. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:03am - paganmegan ""] I'm thinking I may want to start booking shows, but I'm not really sure of where to start so I'll probably start bugging people for advice, or anyone who knows what they're doing as far as booking goes can pm/e-mail or aim me whenever |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:12am - litacore ""] well that would most certainly be cool because I know you would bring in some pretty sick bands |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:16am - paganmegan ""] I wanna do it, I just don't have the $$ to take any falls, so if I do this, you people better show up for these shows |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:17am - litacore ""] iFart said:we're better off without someone as negative as you in the scene around boston. yeah, like you ever even had a conversation with Joe. Guy knows his metal enough to filter out bands like the ones YOU'd probably be booking. AIDS prevention is not an entirely negative thing. :whipper: |

_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 11:37am - paganmegan ""] Yeah, O'Brien's seems the best place to start. I don't think I have Shred's e-mail address.. |

_________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:02pm - iFart ""] awesome, shit on me all you want. still doesn't change the fact that notcommon is a shitty label. i'm one of the many who is glad raising kubrick is now free'd from the chains that held them back for too long. how ironic that joe talks insane amounts of shit about metalcore, but had one on his gay label and has booked metalcore bands. good riddens! |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:07pm - litacore ""] which metalcore band from his label are you referring to and which were booked? Raising Kubrick rules, I think we can agree on that one |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:08pm - Josh_Martin ""] iFart is too much of a pussy to say who he is and he likes metalcore. Does anyone else suck that bad? |
_______________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:08pm - blue ""] iFart said:i'm one of the many who is glad raising kubrick is now free'd from the chains that held them back for too long. good riddens! we were never really 'chained down' by notcommon. joe has always showed us tons of support. and he definetly is an integral part of the boston metal scene. if it wasnt for him, we probably wouldnt have gotten half the exposure that we have gotten, nor would we have gotten the chance to play with a ton of awesome bands. |
_________________________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:14pm - whiskey_weed_and_women ""] Boston's Dead Series - gone Heavy Metal Rotation - gone Not Common - hiatus/ limited amount of shows Boston Metal scene - hiatus i'm gonna love watching people start fighting eachother for shows and shit now, with the 3 key bookers in this town/state all pretty much done. should be an interesting time for the New Republic....damn star wars on in the background |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:18pm - AUTOPSY_666 ""] Don't forget that Anne is gone too. The scene around here is about to flatline again. |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:20pm - litacore ""] VFW halls *shudder* |

The scene around here is about to flatline again. thank you, yeah forgot about that. gee looking real good for everyone. but hey that kid Kenny is booking shows so i guess everyone will be ok, Ha ! |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:41pm - Jesus_Slaves ""] that was worded incorrectly. that wasnt a rude comment or anything, i was just stating that it seems like people think this scene is going to crash and burn without him. sure he did a shitload for a lot of bands, but the scene doesnt rest on just him. everyone needs to work together to get this scene thriving again. if this is such a devastating hit for the music scene, then this should be a wakeup call for bands to start collaborating and stop this stupid feuding shit. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:41pm - Jesus_Slaves ""] i will gladly do my part, i just dont think people take me and my band seriously. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:42pm - paganmegan ""] AUTOPSY_666 said:Don't forget that Anne is gone too. The scene around here is about to flatline again. There is no reason the scene has to "flatline" , if people will pick up where others have left off. If you wanna see a certain show, book the damn thing. That's what I hope to do |
_________________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:47pm - Josh_hates_you ""] I would book shows around Worcester but I have no money till I get a job, like that is gonna happen anytime soon. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:48pm - paganmegan ""] Does it really require all sorts of $$? I think people need to get off their asses and come out to shows more |
__________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:49pm - Ichabod ""] Sorry to hear it Joe....never did get to book the Ichabod/Ocean/Conifer/Abhorred armageddon, eh? Guess www.rootsuckerrecords.com will just have to put out the next Abhorred record.... |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:53pm - swamplorddvm ""] This is whack. Boston Metal is dying!!! Slowly, but it can be saved. |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:55pm - AUTOPSY_666 ""] I am not saying that Joe was everything, but with Liz, Jess, Joe and Anne all quitting around the same time, that is a big deal. I don't blame them, people fucking suck, they are selfish and really don't know how good it is until it's all gone. |
___________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 12:57pm - succubus ""] megan, it really depends, but usually you have to pay a set fee for the venue and then hopefully make it back with the cover..plus if the bands need to get paid... the one time i did it that venue had all PA's and stuff (it was the now defunct Lupo's) and so i just had to pay for the venue and bands ps: it was a surprise bday show for the rev pss: mega low turnout so i had to pay at the end of the night but i didn't mind at all, it was a cool bday gift for aaron |
_______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:01pm - Messerschmitt ""] what if 3 people went in on it? probably zero chance of profit but the show would go on. |
____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:02pm - paganmegan ""] I just want to see shows happen. Not to make money (but I can't afford to lose money either) |
______________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:03pm - Jesus_Slaves ""] getting paid is no deal to my band. we dont have a following big enough to justify asking for payment. so if anyones interested in booking Sacreligion, we play to play, not to get paid. |
________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:06pm - iFart ""] Boston's Dead Series Heavy Metal Rotation Out of that list Jess & Liz are the only promoters in the area that really mattered. They both had positive attitudes and were not close minded about everything. Shitty that they had to call it quits. Everything will be fine, if not better, you'll see. Quote me on that. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:07pm - AUTOPSY_666 ""] I doubt it. |
____________________________________ [Jul 19,2005 1:13pm - paganmegan ""] I think saying "everything will be ok" and then sitting on ones thumbs achieves nothing. THere needs to be someone booking shows in the place of everyone who is not in order for it to continue. Moreover, there needs to be better turnouts for the shows, so people will be less afraid to book them. Then clubs will be less hesitant. So everyone needs to get off their ass |
