Everyone has already said it, but this really does suck. I've only been up here for a very short time, but it's been pretty obvious the positive impact Joe/NC has had on the scene around here. As for booking, we've been wanting to do stuff under the ZBC banner for a while now, and as soon as I get back from vacation I am going to start trying to put something together monthly at some venue or another (and if anyone wants to help out that would be great!!!)

Back on topic, best of luck Joe!!

ifart and jesuslaves. you two should get out the bibs and wipe the drool from your chin. Joe put a lot of work into the scene around here.

yeah, like you ever even had a conversation with Joe. Guy knows his metal enough to filter out bands like the ones YOU'd probably be booking.

And it wasn't appreciated.
If turnouts suck and people lose money, forget it.

No support = no scene.

beastman rules.

I've never been a fan of notcommon records. RK an exception as far as the bands go, I'm sure the gates are now wide open for them to find a label who will support them fully as they should and not bash everything that's not what he likes. Joe booked porphyria for one gig, and I still don't know why. He had negative things to say about Tim (online) that had nothing to do with music a couple of times.

When Extinction Agenda is ready to play this fall, I'll book some shows, maybe a small fest. No worries about it. I've done it before and it's a piece of cake, any person on this board can do it if they have the drive and maybe $100 to lose when the turnout sucks. But book good enough shows, with the right mix of bands who don't overkill by playing around here 4-5x/month, and people will come out.

But it's still sad to see NotCommon slow down, he had some interesting stuff on his label.

*shudder*

The thought of VFW halls makes me shudder also, but let's not forget what they have done for locals like Converge and Cave In among others (regardless of whether anyone here loves or hates them). They are better than nothing, and I've played and helped setup some pretty successful shows at those venues.

I already have e-mailed Shred about some other dates I had planned and am looking into booking some other shit. I've done it a couple times and with advice from other people this should eb a piece of cake, or at least I hope. I'm working on a decent show now that I think would bring a few heads so we'll see how this goes and if it goes over well there will be more to come!

On a side note.... BIG PROPS to Joe, Liz and Jess (Anne too) for everything they've done. Some of the best shows I've been too/played were shows they've set up. Hopefully you guys will still be somewhat involved and we'll see you guys at shows right???

translation: we're good friends with your bass player, and he's interested in playing with us.

further translation: raising kubrick in my opinion has the most to offer than any other band on notcommon. Notcommon never has struck me as a real label anyways.

even further translation: shut up.

You are a fucking retard.
Like Joe signs bands to long-term contracts. RK could've gone to another label anytime they wanted.

You bash what you don't like but Joe shouldn't? No wonder you like VFW shows.

what the fuck is wrong with VFW shows? its a show isnt it? what do people expect, Carnegie Hall? everyone bitches about every venue regardless of whether they are bad or not. granted there are those worse than others ie. the Bombshelter, but beggars cant be choosers. you take what you can get and make the best out of it. there is so much fucking whining and bitching its disgusting. the pride of being in this scene is whats fading, not the scene itself. bands need to stop acting like they are multi-platium sellers and realize THEY ARE JUST GARAGE BANDS! good god.

You're right. I play O'Briens and the Chopping Block for peanuts all the time and I think I'm in a platinum band.

I like bars and I hate kids. Thats why I don't like VFW shows. (and I know VFWs have bars but they usually aren't open during all-ages shows)
I suppose if there was a really good line up a VFW show could be good but every VFW show I've heard of was all faggotty Converge/Cave In type shit.

There are a few bands on here that sadly would choose only 21+ bar shows over VFW halls because alchohol is clearly more important than music itself.

Halls shows sucks? Two words: Sausage Fest.

Good luck with whatever you're moving on to Joe. Some of us will try picking up the slack once we're ready. Let me know if you want to collaborate on any shirt ideas, like the one or two I mentioned at the last DeeDee's show I think, if you and Mike are still going to continue with that.

Massachusetts in general doesn't really get good shows. At one point we were a hotbed for sick tours like death across america and bloodletting, among other great bands coming through. Seems like after 2001 shows there were really worth going to just suddenly stopped happening and it wasn't because of lack of turnouts either.

more vfw shows(there's one in hopkinton that has a bar open during all-ages shows...good turnouts...good sound(the guy from chillblane(good band, not metal though) books there and provides the sound...does a great job and its always a fun time...shows are done by 12 i believe))

thats a lot of parentheses

has anyone else noticed that nobody's done anything but bicker this entire thread? if that stopped there'd be no hault to the NE metal scene...fuck this "boston scene" shit(err...the scene is a whole...you know what i mean)

thread translation: you mean the people who booked a lot of shows in boston are stopping? now WE have to do it? WE have to WORK to make our band continue? *insert don vito jibberish*

oh yeah...and have a good fuckin time. metal isn't about anger like a lot of people make it out to be...maybe the music is...but the idea itself is all about having a good fuckin time. jeez...didn't anyone learn anything from the 80s?

[Jul 19,2005 4:34pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""]
I always thought metal was about having a good time...being ANGRY. N'est pas?

I think in any 'scene' though there will always be bickering. I mean it's pretty competetive, only so many bands are going to be successful, etc, etc. Just break out that grain of salt and enjoy the bickering!

let the rival gangs emerge

crap

gangs

this means I need to learn how to dance in tandem with a bunch of other metalheads so we can intimidate the other gang before we rumble

sorry to hear about your label, you obviously put a lot into it and when you are both loved and hated it usually means that you have standards and stand behind them at all times

you probably would've hated my band, but who cares? good luck Joe.

the boston metal scene = shows in the city of boston, not that hard

joe booked alot of shows here: middle east, chopping block, obriens, all asia, etc... and the turnouts were always at least decent because Joe promotes his shows well.
