Shadows Fall #20 on Billboard Chart...[views:18763][posts:62]____________________________________ [Oct 1,2004 5:40pm - Justin ACR ""] Think of it this way, these kids were never exposed to real good music before. When they get exposed to it, if they dig it, cool, if they don't, cool. Its not like you were listening to brutal death metal from the day you were born. At 1 point u were exposed to it. |

You just proved it right there, the only way they get in the big room is if someone takes them with them. End of story. They'd have to open for Shadows Fall, they'd have to open for Killswitch Engage, hell, they'd even have to open for From Autumn To Ashes. They would be lucky to even play the small room at the Palladium on their own. They NEED the Deftones, the Deftones don't need them... Actually I meant with a few bands of equal popularity, like if they did some Legends of Thrash tour, that would draw enough to fill the big room without getting mallmetal involved. Considering the current trend of metalcore and nu-metal's decline even the Deftones would have trouble filling the big room by themselves. |

If they're on a "Legends of Thrash" tour with Exodus and whoever else, you're not going to question their having to open the way you would with the Deftones, so your analogy doesn't work. |

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! may be, maybe not.....but i do know this much...... i never got into any stupid mallcore shit.... my hippie uncle got me into the doors, and hendrix and all that stuff when i was little, my mom got me into megadeth, metallica and slayer when i was 11, and my friend bobby got me into death metal when i was 13. granted, i guess you're right, not everyone can be priveledged enough to grow up on rock n roll, and get into metal through relatives and friends....some people progressively get into heavier music, and they start at the bottom with gay bands like korn, and limp dipshit. i guess it did'nt dawn on me cuz i never went through such phases. but still, ya gotta admit.......the thought of a mallrat korn fan at cephallic carnage or cryptopsy show is at least a little annoying. |

I'm the same way man, and I used to think a lot like that. I got into bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and whole bunch of other metal bands when I was 8. Before that I don't really listening to much music. I even got suspended from school for wearing a Megadeth shirt in 4th grade because on the back of the shirt it said "Megadeth: the killing of millions on people". Some fuckin gay parent that saw my shirt complained to the school, the rest is history. But I completely hear where you're coming from, but a lot of kids don't have the luxury of getting into metal at such an early age. Over the last couple years I've met a lot of kids that really love there metal, but only a few years ago they were listening to some of the worst crap out there, just because they never heard anything better. So it's changed my opinion all together. |
___________________________________ [Oct 3,2004 10:29pm - dreadkill ""] i umderstand where justin is coming from. 5 or 6 years ago, all i wanted to do was stab every poser in the face, then i mellowed out and focused more on what i was doing and ignored the posers. now the posers are getting closer to real metal, so i am turning back into the same asshole i was 5 or 6 years ago. i feel like i am on some quest to save metal, but i know i can't stop it from being commercialized and turned into a waste product that i have no respect for. i'm glad we have some good bands on rttp who keep real metal alive and underground. i hope the posers leave prog rock and trip hop alone so i can enjoy them the same way. my post is starting to get rambly and stupid. time for the next topic. |
____________________________________ [Oct 4,2004 7:11pm - boneripper1 ""] the first minute of the first song blew me away, i thought i was going to throw out what i had previously "knew" about SF. However, upon listening a little longer, my previous thoughts were vindicated- they do infact still suck. brian fair is a homo, he takes the band in a strange direction- guitar riffs are cliche and somewhat pretentious- combine that with a very slick recording and some "clean" vocals, and you have a top twenty seller. in a sense im not suprised by their "success." what do you want, peter, paul and mary sold some records too. |
