does anyone else have physical side effects from playing live shows?[views:12637][posts:62]_____________________________ [Aug 7,2007 12:50am - cav ""] so today for lunch i had pizza hut lunch buffet. i really didnt gorge myself at all, had a salad, a plate of pasta, and about 3-4 mini slices of pizza. that was at about 1145. i didnt eat the rest of the day, usually before shows i loose my appetite. so i got home about an hour ago picked up 3 dollar menu items from BK, figured i had to eat something even though i still didnt feel hungry, now im starting at half of a hamburger and a couple chicken tenders i cant even eat even though i know i havent eaten shit today. weird. also from time to time i have to shit about 12 times the day of a show. anyone else have any of these problems? |
_________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 12:53am - no sir ""] seems to me that your problem lies entirely in your first sentence. do the math. 1 slice=roughly 3 shits. |

____________________________ [Aug 7,2007 1:02am - cav ""] haha. yea i used to think it was from nerves, because i used to get nervous for shows but i really dont anymore, unless its a bigger show. maybe my body still feels the nervousness even though in my mind ive figured out how to deal with it. i dont know. lol. it just confuses me because i love to eat. haha. |
___________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 1:25am - NoodleFace ""] I used to have crazy anxiety problems before shows that would hit me literally right before I got on stage. I wasn't even really nervous or anxious, but I guess somewhere in my mind I was. That's a lot of food still. |
_________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 1:27am - Niccolai ""] I ALWAYS get the shits before shows. It's balistic diareah too. but I think it might have something to do with drinking energy drinks. I think they make my stomach uneasy, but I don't drink them unless it's before a show, so I don't know if they normally do it to me or not. |
__________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 1:38am - fishcakes ""] energy drinks will give you explosive diareah! |
_________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 1:40am - Niccolai ""] I drank 3 full cans of jolt before the first TYAG show (with terrible night, cianide breed, and the hound) and seriously I was shitting my brains out for a good 2 hours before the show and during the show. I had to dook at the practice space and there was no TP and the guy that runs the place has hepC so I had to make a paper ass-casket out of a musicians friend magazine and use it to push brown. It SUCKED |

Just my neck though. My shoulders are usually fine. I say it is your nerves still. |
_______________________________ [Aug 7,2007 8:17am - xmikex ""] I played a show at the Salem Elks one time (it was actually a really really good show), and I spent like 45 minutes getting a meatball sub from this really nice sub shop down the street. I took probably 3 bites out of the thing and couldn't finish the rest. I was just way too anxious. That and eating heavy food + screaming always = barfaroni. |

______________________________ [Aug 7,2007 8:47am - yummy ""] I always felt real tired from being mr. nice guy at the end of shows and helping everyone unload their shit and load it back at the end of the night. If it wasn't for the gear I would be fine the next day. I don't get nervous at shows because I don't know anyone anymore. |
_________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 8:49am - brian_dc ""] I hear that, I'm a gangly weak guy who works sitting at a computer all day. Having to carry so much shit around just does not compute to my body. I also have the most awkward post-show banter because it takes me about 20 minutes to become a human being again after we play. |
_________________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 9:08am - largefreakatzero ""] I used to get nervous at shows, but I just don't care anymore. If I/we fuck up, who cares, it's not like we're getting paid. I find if you have that attitude and are out to have fun, you end up playing better in the end. Staying up very late kills me (because I am old) but that's about it. I get more physical side-effect post-practice than post show. During practice you stand around holding your guitar for 2 hours and keep drilling song after song, so I usually get lower back pain. |

________________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 9:29am - metal_church101 ""] I find that icing the back of your neck after you are done your set helps if you head bang during your set. Usually there is no ice around, so I found that putting the cold beer bottle that you are drinking on the back of your neck between sips helps you out the next day. |

______________________________ [Aug 7,2007 10:35am - Yeti ""] my back always screams the day after a show. our keyboardist fucked himself up, he started separating the discs in his neck and spine from flailing around like a madman. |

__________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 12:46pm - Sinistas ""] Besides throwing my back out of whack, a bit of whiplash, and sweating like Meat Loaf in a sauna, I don't have any problems before or after a set. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 7,2007 12:48pm - MarkFuckingRichards ""] Getting nervous about shows is one thing I've never had problems with, except when I was like 15 playing a basement show in my first band. After that I realized there is nothing to be nervous about. I find that if there is enough positive energy displayed by the band playing, the crowd will ultimately be more into it, even if they're not moving around. I do however get very excited before playing, so I usually move at light speed and hate when set up time takes more than 10 minutes. Then I find that I'm too energized after playing, so I don't go to bed until like 2 or 3 AM, even if I was tired as hell or sick before playing. |
