I live literally across the street from Pizza Plus. I was to lazy to walk over their so I had it delivered. They charged $3 for delivery fees so I gave the lady a 1.50 tip and she made a bitch commit to me about it.

as i was saying before.....
last weekend on phantom gourmet (ya shut up i dont have cable i watch whatever channel is coming in without snow)they were saying that most pizza places in hte coming months/year will start adding a delivery charge due to the higher gas prices and higher insurence costs..... these delivery charges cover that for the resturaunt so the driver still isnt getting anything out of this.

there is this pizza place (i forget the name)..but the last 3 times we ordered from it..they messed up...and it's like $20 for a large (sun dried tomatoes and ricotta)

but to be civil for once, you never give more than $5 for tipping the delivery guy. i hate the fact that tipping is expected to begin with. i mean it is his job to deliver me that pizza. that is what he's being paid to do. if he got it to me 5 minutes after i made the order, or he helped me set the table or some crazy shit like that, then i understand tipping. but i hate that he's doing what he's supposed to do and i'm expected to tip for it. i believe tipping is only for when you go above and beyond your job and take that extra step to make the customer happy.

I'd rather they just raise prices by a buck a pie or something. A large from a local place is only like $7.50 anyway, so even at $.50 to $1 more it's still a good deal (certainly compared to chains... That'll get you a Medium before tax, delivery charge and tip from Domino's I believe).

That's a 48% increase in cost. To keep our profit margins the same as a year ago, we SHOULD be charging like $5 more a pizza, since gas prices, cheese cost, labor, and new health and federal laws requiring additional training and expenses are fucking hard working shitheads like myself our raises. I got a shit $15 a week raise, and I'm the best at what I do in my region. PLUS, we have to pinch pennies on labor so badly that I'm pretty much running shorthanded all the time just to meet budgeted expectations.
I'm sorry to tell you this guys, but you customers just aren't worth the fucking I recieve daily. I think once in a while people should just shut the fuck up, or go home and make thier own pizza.

I didnt read this whole thread, but being a pizza delivery guy, the charge is there so that if someone stiffs you, at least we get something. I hook up my friends all the time, as Joe knows :D, so I make it worth it for good customers.

Yeah, cause there is most likely 2 guys behind the counter. They don't pay for advertising, uniforms, commercials, and eqiupment like we do. When we make a pizza, we pay only about $2.75 for the ingredients. Now add in the cost of the 20 minutes we pay the driver to wait for it, deliver it, and come back, all at an hourly wage of $6.75-9. That brings cost up to around $4.50. Now, add in the guy making the pizza, the other 2-10 employees on the clock, and the overhead (rent, gas, electric, etc...) and the cost is completely understandable.
WHen you go to a joint that sells pizzas for $4, there's a reason. It's either a family restaurant where there's no hourly help or advertising costs, or they use shit ingredients, or else they keep getting raped by bigger and better places with superior product so they're desperately trying to win business.
Again, the charge is justified, trust me. I dig through these figures on a daily basis. Hell, even I wouldn't pay for one of our pizzas, I can't aford it. However, I can completely understand every charge we make. If I opened my own place, maybe I'd charge less because my cost would be less.
And Terence, if you get stiffed, the order gets cancelled, along with the driver fee. It's actually there to pay for your reimbursment. (drivers get a $.65 reimbursment per delivery) and the rest goes to offset the cost of delivery equipment and driver pay. By the way, tell Gary the Agar driver I said "hi". I got transferred, so he hasn't seen me in a bit.

I don't know what chain you work for... But nothing above justifies actually paying that higher cost... Especially cause local pizza parlors usually deliver much tastier product in just as much time (and with a larger menu to choose from). Certainly I'd say consumers are better off speaking with their dollars than complaining about the high prices, but I think it's a valid criticism to say "Fuck this, I'm not paying $12 + tip for a large pizza and another Bad Andy, Good Pizza ad."
It's a shame the advertising works so well, since so many people still pay way too much for average pizza... I am guilty too, since Dominos is open later than anything else around here, but when I have the option, I'll go with the better bargain and better pizza from the local shop hands down.
Instead of bitching about the customers, why not question why your place's advertising budget is so high or why the corporate offices in Bumfuck, Arkansas need such a big cut per pie?
