Final Fantasy 3 (6) Appresh[views:16282][posts:94]____________________________________ [Oct 19,2011 7:22am - arilliusbm ""] Relm: What's wrong, lover boy? Edgar: ...How old are you? Relm: Ten... Why? Weirdo. I'm going on ahead, okay? Edgar: Not even a lady yet... Here's hoping you're still around in eight years, kid. |

Sabin's blitzs become too tedious and ineffective late in the game. Edgar's tools are awesome at first, but also become obsolete late in the game. Only saving Shadow is real. You kidding me? Edgar and Sabin have been in my final party every time I've played. |
____________________________________ [Oct 19,2011 7:55am - arilliusbm ""] Sabin can be very powerful based on sheer stength and also with the genji glove equiped. But his blitz techniques are way too tedious. |

FFIII (going by SNES Numerics, not Japan) is definitely one of the best ever. I wouldn't say I like it more than FFII however, which would probably be my vote for best game ever, even though III has multiple endings and free will and more characters, II did even more with less. It dabbled less in cutesy Chocobos and Moogles and Mogs and other kid stuff/cutesy music, sticking with the grandiose and dark moreso. Most importantly, it was character based more than storyline based, never losing focus in the dramatic tale it was trying to tell. While III was cool in that it made you not as focused on Terra as a central character arc in order to widen the roster and expand the possibilities of the stories, II made the gameplayer identify more with Cecil as the story unfolds, creating a greater emotional investment in the game when things actually would pay off. Therefore, I think II edges out III, but that's more a compliment to II than any criticism of III. I like to use the TNG/DS9 comparison as a parallel - a case where the earlier simpler character driven version is actually even better than the still very good multiple sustained story arc version that came later. |

___________________________________ [Oct 19,2011 9:20am - arktouros ""] using the canonical numbers here - I played IV as a young lad in '92. absolutely loved it and i still remember the village of mist, the two brothers turning to stone to save the party, tellah summoning meteor, definitely one of my all time favorites. but i'm real big on atmosphere and art direction, and the small handful of hours i've played of VI, i just like the presentation better. BUT i can't say shit because i haven't scratched the surface of VI, yet. |

But his blitz techniques are way too tedious. you're using him wrong. He has no armor or good weapons. His best attacks are magic blitz s. you should be raising his magic stat. i don't know about tedious, but the blitz(s) are over rated. His best one is air blade. yeah you can get bum rushing doing 9999 damage, but you can't choose where it goes. I fucking hate that. Better off getting him to use ultima. |

Then again its not like the game is hard. you can beat it with an average level of 7. |
____________________________________ [Oct 19,2011 1:44pm - arilliusbm ""] He worked out just fine the way I used him, but he's not my favorite by any means. Ive beat the game numerous times without paying too much attention to developing Sabin. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:24pm - Gogo ""] This game is an absolute masterpiece. I've probably played and beaten it 15 times since it came out in 1994. The music, characters, gameplay, depth, world... everything about it is awesome. If you were too caught up in FF7 due to it becoming so popular, and you haven't played FF6, I highly suggest you play it, as it is best of the series IMO. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] I've played through it 3 times and it rules. My favorite still remains 10. I love 7 and 6 but 10 put me in a place that neither did...though when Aeris dies is probably the most touching videogame moment ever. |

_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] Oh come on. You can put your FF elitism aside and enjoy the incredible game that X was. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] Don't know - I never owned a PS2 or 3 for that matter, but I've played X. Once the characters started to look like girls and the game was all petite-looking and whathaveyou, it was a turn off. I'm sure I'd appreciate it, but I'm such an old school gamer that I'd definitely prefer all the FFs prior to it. I just love any game within the 8-16bit era. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] I do agree that secret to amazing RPGs lies in being 16 bit but I still think that the new games are gonna rule. You've clearly played Chrono Cross. That game leaned towards petite-looking as you say but it still kicked more ass than almost any PS1 RPG...save for FF7 and a few others. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] I liked Chrono Cross but I get shit all the time for saying I was disappointed! I LOVED ChronoTrigger and I felt that Cross wasn't a good follow up. My favorite PS1 RPG are Wild Arms and Xenogears. Xenogears my favorite by far though. I also loved its allusions to Christianity and the slight mock of religion that it hinted towards. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] I loved ffII, and ffIII, VII was real cool, but not as good as it's 16 bit predecessors. Anyone ever try the shining force series for the genesis? It was a lot like the FFtactics games...but much better. How about the landstalker game for genesis (I still play both of these about once a year) it was like zelda but 3d. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:25pm - Gogo ""] Shining Force 1 is my favorite game of all time. That's why I've recently been getting into Fire Emblem for GBA - it's a lot like the SF games. |

It's one of the few video games out there that evokes those kind of feelings inside of me. Yeah that whole part of the game is pretty emotionally driven. |

_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:26pm - Gogo ""] haha. Kefka is also one of the best enemies in any video game I think. Not only is he a clown, his music is awesome and he's evil to the core. Ultros the octopus is pretty funny too. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:26pm - Gogo ""] FF6 had fucking great music but I really feel that Kefka wasn't the best of villains. He didn't feel evil. He just felt like a goofy guy with a goofy way of getting what he wants. Ultros did rule tho. |
_______________________________ [Oct 19,2011 4:26pm - Gogo ""] I don't think Kefka holds a candle to Magus in CT. When you first see Magus in CT it pwns. And the fact that he then joins you a little bit later is awesome, too. |
