GUITAR LESSONS WANTED / NH or ME?[views:5854][posts:28]_____________________________________ [Sep 30,2004 2:25pm - RustedAngel ""] I've been playing for about 7 years, I feel like I'm sorta at a block in my playing and think I need someone to help me take my playing to the next level. If only there were someone like Darren/Goratory drummer but a metal guitarist looking to give lessons I'd take em up on the offer. I'd prefer to get lessons from someone into all forms of metal (mainly death metal) and even classical. I won't bother getting lessons from some guy who's not into metal. Things I'd like to accomplish off the top of my head are: arpeggio's/sweeps/soloing theory... right hand technique as well as increasing speed and stamina.. If anyone can give me any info on anyone n' shit, that'd be sick. thanks. unite_the_dead@hotmail.com |

_______________________________________ [Jan 9,2007 2:30pm - ArrowHead NLI ""] Tom, If you feel like you've hit a wall, lessons might not be the right thing. Even weekly, you're limited to only what you can absorb in a half hour or hour, and then forced to concentrate on executing only that material until the next week. It's good if you know where you want to go, but not so great if you're stuck and don't know where to go. Theory is also overrated. I mean, it's USEFUL. It helps simplify things a huge amount most of the time, but no matter what it will ALWAYS be reverse engineering. I can play a boxed major scale starting on C in E minor, and do I need to know what mode it is? Not really. The more modes, scales, and voice leading you learn the more you realize that it's not so much the scale intervals that change, it's their relation to the overall key. Experiment, move things around, there's only 12 notes to choose from at the end of the day. Again, basic study and lessons are GREAT. Lessons are GREAT. But only if you know what you want out of them. For instance, go to a site like www.chopsfromhell.com and check out the oodles of free video and audio lessons. Choose a bunch of everything, and work on them. Eventually when you find something particular you like, bring it to a good teacher and ask them to expand on it. For instance, I just picked up an hour lesson from a friend on string skipping, as I found a few good excercises, but was still having trouble doing them. |
