I need new snare heads. I've been experimenting with different stuff but I'm unhappy with my results so far. I want a high pitch, short crack like I'm hitting a block of wood.

I'm looking for the sound similar to the snare on the In My Sorrow tracks. (myspace.com/inmysorrow).

any recomendations for batter and snareside heads are apreciated.

Remo clear ambassador on the bottom and Coated on the top. Look into a possible new snare too(not the drum but the actual snare). Tighten the hell out of it also. Don't be scared it's what they are for.

Aquarian Hi-Energy Snare aheads are your best bet for getting a high pitched hard crack

Word word.
I had an ambassador on before and it was nice for about a week but got dull real quick. after that, I put an evans g2 coated on and it's working good, but the snare side head isn't working good with it.

I don't hit hard or anything, I use 7a sticks and hit pretty soft. I've never broken a head or stick by hitting the drum.
The snare belt on it is stock from pearl, I might look into changing it.
the snare is a 5.5x14 pearl export. I was thinking about getting a 13, would that allow a higher crack?

You got to tighten those heads, I'm telling you. The stock Pearl snare you may want to change but, if you don't hit hard, go for broke on the snare head and tighten the piss out of it.

I have the answer... If the drum is metal, 14" & strong quality.... Use a clear ambassador on the bottom, with 1 of those snares that are enclosed in a metal case. on the top, use a remo K Fallam head (coated or clear) and tighten the fuck out of it. It's made for corps/marching drums. They are made of 2 normal skin layers & 1 layer of kevlar. You could tune the thing with a fuckin impact wrench & it won't break. The one on my snare is almost 3 yrs old... high, loud, short fast "crack".

evans G2 coated. top. slighty muffled. tight.
G1 resonant. bottom.

or aquarian "tommy lee signature series" it has a 10 inch power dot on both sides. top.
remo ambassador. bottom.

13" usualy have less ring to them but are not always that much higher. try a 3 1/4 x 14".
