I've never used one, so i'm pretty clueless about them.

So far all i've been told is the $149.00 Alesis in Musician's Friend is decent sounding, fairly priced, and moderately simple to use.

I'll be using it for death/punk/whatever crossover.
thanx for the help -GW

the Boss/Roland DR 770 is solid. Sometimes computer software is better to construct beats

The alesis sounds like crap. Check out any of the boss/roland line. You can get a boss Dr-660 or Dr-5/550 on ebay for under $180 and they are easy to use and sound better than the alesis.
