Well, with the way bittorrent works, the other users can only download the files you are currently downloading, or the files that you finished downloading and haven't removed from your list yet (seeding). It's not like other p2p networks where you share out a directory. You can tell if someone else is downloading off you though by looking at your upspeed. Also, depending on your client you can go into the torrent details and see what's going on regarding all the connections. As far as getting good downloads speeds, make sure port 6881 isn't being blocked by your firewall/router/ISP (I believe you can also use a different port). Also, make sure you have a decent client and that it's the current version. (I use azureus (seems to do the trick) http://azureus.sourceforge.net ) Other than that, it all depends on the torrents. When you choose torrents to download, make sure you select ones with a decent amount of seeders (people who have the whole file downloaded and are just uploading). Finding good torrent sites also help. If the sites are maintained well enough, the admins will take off mislabeled or corrupted torrents. I usually just use these three: http://www.thepiratebay.org http://www.torrentspy.com http://www.isohunt.com
