I must say, you spout a lot of hatred... comics will forever kill off and bring back (through completely insane and rediculous as the world turns type plot twists) characters that are popular. this is what they do and why for xxx years people bought their product.
Gotta love the title on that cover... I stopped reading X-Men in the late 80s. It was very strong for the first few hundred issues, after that I stopped caring. And I must state that GOOD comics do not forever kill off and bring back characters. Transmetropolitan? Watchmen? Steampunk? etc, etc. Classics. Crappy superhero comics (Marvel and unfortunately DC) forever kill off and bring back characters as a deux ex machina, because they cannot write worth a damn and have let the idea well run dry for a long time now. Honestly, a lot of people don't buy their products...sales have been relatively low for comics over the past decade. Part of this is due to the multiple continuities, etc. and how many times Marvel dropped the ball in the 90s. Only the hardcore still spend a lot on comics. This is one of the reasons for the major resurgence in comic films, Marvel will be quicker to sell over rights because they are trying to renew interest in the medium. For example, how much do you spend on comics monthly? I mean, manga outsells a lot of American comics here in the States now! That is insane and was unthinkable back in the day.
