from the fosters obit DOVER — David Roger Bye, 50, of Edgar Bois Terrace, died of a massive heart attack on Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. He was born on June 9, 1956, in Portland, Maine, the son of Karl and Jean (Waldron) Bye. He moved to Dover with his family in June of 1959. He graduated from Dover High School in 1974. Following high school, he chose music and "sound engineering" for his career. He became a self-taught sound engineer and "one of the best in the business." Early in his career, he worked and toured with many well known musicians, including some with international celebrity. His heart attack in 1995 forced him to discontinue the touring circuit. Most recently he was the "sound man" at the popular Dover Brick House. Music was his whole life. Predeceased by his soulmate, Clair Brennan, he is survived by his parents, Karl and Jean (Waldron) Bye; one sister, Lynn Brokus and her husband, Paul; one brother, Ron Bye and his wife, Wanda, all of Rochester; three nieces, Amy Brokus, Katie Brooks, and Sara Brokus, all of Rochester; three nephews, Daniel Brokus of Rochester, Kraig Brokus in Connecticut and Erik Bye in Honolulu, Hawaii; as well as many, many wonderful friends. In his younger days, David was a motocross enthusiast, gaining some awards along the way. He even managed to garner a trophy in automobile racing at the track in Epping, the prize he won using his mother's Mustang without her knowledge. More recently, however, he just loved riding his bicycle locally. Most of his family and friends never knew that David had a strong interest in poetry, frequently scribbling poems for his own satisfaction. On one occasion, at least, he submitted a poem and received an "Editor's Choice Award" presented by the International Library of Poetry. One of David's most recent projects was a self-published book entitled "My Journal for Life," inspired by his own health which led him to sponsor a child through the Christian Children's Fund for which he had contributed over the last few years of his life. Through it all, music was his life's passion. ———— A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Church (Congregational) at 176 West High St. in Somersworth on Saturday, July 29, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Rideout, officiating; with a reception and light lunch following the service in the Parish Hall downstairs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Heart Gift Department, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY. 11220. A "Memorial Benefit," sponsored by the Dover Brick House and several local bands, will be held at the Dover Brick House, beginning at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 29, following the memorial service and reception at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH. To sign the online guest book go to www.purdyfuneralservice.com.
