When You're In a Record Store....[views:5928][posts:31]_________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 10:49am - Ryan_M ""] ...don't you hate it when you're browsing the metal section, and someone else is there, and they start talking to you about bands, but all the bands they talk about suck hippopotamus balls? This happened to me and my friend twice maybe last week - one kid at the Bullmoose Record store in Salem, NH started talking to us about how awesome the old Slayer records were, and I thought "Hey this guy has good taste" then he started asking if we liked Trivium, Atreyu, and A Bullet For My Valentine, (which we said we didn't) then picked up an As I Lay Dying CD, put it in my hand and told me I should seriously buy it and walked away. Needless to say, I put it back and bought something that was actually good. Then another time at the Newbie's in Nashua, NH, this guy started talking about all these lame power metal bands, and gay 80's bands that he saw on some reunion tour. I tried telling him I was more into old death/black metal music, but he kept on going about Doro and Whitesnake and yadda yadda yadda... I try to be nice, it's not in me to be a dick to people, but it's fucking annoying. |
______________________________ [Sep 16,2006 10:54am - pam ""] That happens to me all the time. Cept I get the added annoyance of them thinking because I like metal, I'm going to fuck them. "So, Six Feet Under is brroootal, right?" "no" "oh. You heard Job For a Cowboy" "I have to go" "oh, ok" |
_________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 11:00am - Ryan_M ""] Haha I also love seeing like 11 year old sk8r bois rush straight for the Iron Maiden section and "oooh" and "aaahh" over every album, then run over to the Rock/Pop section and talk about Green Day, Nirvana and System of a Down. |
______________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 11:18am - KeithMutiny ""] i used to work at a newbury comics, and my roomate used to come in and break all the rancid and greenday records in half, on a regular basis. i never told them i knew who it was, i thought it was funny. |
______________________________ [Sep 16,2006 11:21am - pam ""] I like Rancid. Their first album was awesome. |

______________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 11:23am - KeithMutiny ""] i hated working at newbury, i used to get yelled at for talking people out of buying shitty cds. |
___________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 11:41am - Dankill ""] As long as you talked them into buying something good, who cares? Sales are sales. I get that crap a lot and I try give them the, "If youlike this, try this to step it up a notch" Half the time,it works, other times blank stares or "I don't know. That looks too scary" |

___________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 12:14pm - Aegathis ""] Id tell ya to put down any Taake cd as well, if they even carried them at any record store that is. |

________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 1:17pm - Kevord ""] I went to the Newbury Comics in Salem N.H. for the first time in a long time on Sunday. I had to listen to some douche bag with purple hair talk about how great the new sevendust dvd is gonna be. I didn't even know sevendust was still around. I think I'll stick to getting music online. |
____________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 1:34pm - BornSoVile ""] one of the greatest things someone ever said to me was at jiffy lube, some dude bragging to me about how his band was on sony and they were just like unearth, "i don't like metalcore and all that psuedo "grind" crap" - me "so you must like the crazy bands like cradle of filth" - dude |
________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 1:43pm - Kevord ""] I had a kid at a car wash see my slayer sticker on my car and ask if I had heard of this new album by this band At the Gates called Slaughter of the Soul. I said yeah I bought it ten years ago. |
_____________________________ [Sep 16,2006 1:46pm - pam ""] Slaughter the Soul is a great, innovative album...completely to blame for 90% of the idiots cluttering up metal today. |

Absolutely. I think Earache reissued it within the last year. I did think it was pretty funny that someone would not realize that At the Gates wasn't a new band. |

THAT'S NOT ADDED FOR SOME ALL THE BEST METAL STORES IN HOUSTON ARE IN THE MANTROSE OH AND THE ENGLISH ENGLISH METALLERS ASSUME YOU'RE GAY UNLESS YOU'VE GOT A BNP TATTOO |
________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 9:19pm - Ryan_M ""] BornsoVile and Kevord's stories made me chuckle. Another annoyance for me is when lame people try to compliment me on my band shirts. A 12 year old fat kid in an ICP shirt said he liked my Misfits shirt. I ignored him - I was sure if a copy of 'Walk Among Us' was playing, he'd have no fucking clue what it was. I also think it's funny when people can't read a band logo on my shirt and when I tell them what it says, they go "Oh, they're awesome!" I would figure if a person doesn't know the band's logo, they don't know the band. I had a Darkthrone shirt on one day and a kid said "What does that say, Dark Funeral?" I said "No, Darkthrone". He said "Oh cool!" I also remember ordering a sub at Quiznos and the kid at the counter looked at my Dying Fetus shirt and said "So I guess you're into metal huh?" I said yes, and then he asked me what my shirt said. I said "Dying Fetus". A look came over his face and he said "That's just wrong man" then started talking about how he was going to see Slayer and Lamb of God. |
__________________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 9:31pm - dwellingsickness ""] Everytime I wear my Anal Blast shirt, It seems some fuckin dumb mallgoth kid comes up to me and wants to compliment me on my Cradle of Filth shirt, because of the similarity of the logo I guess, and wants to know where I got it cuz they never seen that design before. |
______________________________________________ [Sep 16,2006 10:24pm - MarkFuckingRichards ""] i've had too many of these things happen to me since i frequent all cd shops very, very much. too much in fact. i was at the newbury comics in dartmouth in the metal section a few months ago and another kid in the same section felt the need to smile, get all giddy and say "yeah man, rock on, huuh...hh...hh!" as if i was the only other person in massachusetts that listened to metal. i guess i'm his new best friend now, haha. and once upon a time in a house in framingham, inhabited by the likes of dankill, the drummer from kultur made us listen to his band's demo i'd say about 6 times throughout the night. he made many comments on his own band, and asked us what we thought. when we gave him our honest opinions (that it was well recorded but boring and lacked originality overall), he played the old "well we only play the music that we like, not to impress anyone else. playing shows at the lucky dog every 3 days for years on end is where it's at" and such. we mentioned that some riffs sounded like certain bands, and what bands we could tell they were influenced by, but he denied having influence from any bands at all, and that kultur doesn't sound like anybody else. most original band ever, clearly. there's more, but i'll spare the details. there ya go dan. recounted mothafuckah. |
