Anthony nli said:
To my ears, Martyr create much more meaningful and unique music than Necrophagist. I really wouldn't lump them together like that. It's a shame Martyr aren't more well known and well-loved. They are one of the best active metal bands in the world. But even if they were more popular, people who've heard a snippet of maybe two songs would be coming out of the woodwork to say it was just "technical wankery." Tools.
Martyr is definitely better than Necrophagist (especially that new album). That highly technical style is always going to have a limited following though, just as it always has, which is why people grew up with Ozzy and Manowar and left Watchtower and Cynic on the record store shelf, and Avenged Sevenfold blew up to the teenie boppers and Discordance Axis didn't. Who cares though, as long as we get to listen to Martyr :)
