As far as the production....I can't stress enough how important the production aspect is to black metal music. So many people fail to understand that the recording isn't "poor" because these guys are just too fucking stupid to make it sound any better - it's recorded like that on purpose; there's a reason for it. It contributes immensely to the overall mood and atmosphere of the music. A polished and crystal clear sound would ruin it. They're not a waste of talent either. You're approaching this music the wrong way, you're probably expecting epic symphonies and dazzling technical wizardry because more famous "black metal" bands play like that. I'm not going to bother going further into why Darkthrone sound the way they do, I've rambled enough. As far as the vote, I've got it narrowed down to either Soulside Journey, Goatlord, Transilvanian Hunger or Panzerfaust. But this is still fucking impossible - Darkthrone are my favorite black metal band, and one of my top favorite bands ever. I can't pick just one. |

| _______________________________ [Dec 18,2006 10:33am - Yeti ""] i dont really think Darkthrone has a discography you could label as "best to worst", they just continuously write awesome material. each album has its own feel and sound, and they are all well written. they went through so many stages of sound that you could have a best of for each style. my personal favorites are A Blaze in the Northern Sky and Ravishing Grimness, but those 2 are so far apart in sound its hard to compare. you certainly cant compare Soulside Journey with something like Total Death either. i guess all in all the point is that Darkthrone are the almighty, fuck you if you think otherwise. |
