So there it is. It's not finished yet obviously. I am pretty pumped on making these. This one has a few mods done to it from the stock TS808 circuit. I made a small change in the clipping stage, and I got rid of the annoying mid hump these tend to have. It's using all nuetrik connectors and obviously all hand solderd. Should make one kick ass pedal once done. Hopefully this is the first of many.

I got the board from BYOC. Baught the case off of a guy from harmony central. Got the resistors at radio shack. Neutriks at a local store, and used the BYOC instructions since I am using thier board.

once I figure out how work the circuit for it and come up with a schematic it is on. I don't want to pay for the voodoo labs onew I want, and the morley one if far from worht the money. I jsut finished this pedal. Worked first try. I'm making a post about it now.

how it sits right now.

I gotta say, this thing sounds phenominal. I love my bad monkey. In fact I like it more than original TS808's, and all the boss stuff etc etc. I think the keely modded 808's, and maxons sound better than the bad monkey, but for the price it is a VERY tough to beat pedal... This 808 I jsut built stomps pretty much all the boost I have tried. I absolutely love the sound. I did about 4 mods to it so it will match the sound I was going for, and I could not be happier from a 1 function overdrive!

Thanks Jimmy! I'll be posting some clips as soon as I 1. get this splinter out of my foot, 2. finish building this wall at my other house.

You SHOULD feel smart.
Very nice job, dooderino.

I have never used a boost, because I've usually used a diff preset instead, but what is this for, solos?

generally, boosting means just taking a transparent overdrive pedal such as a tubescreamer and setting it as follows:

gain: 0
tone: to taste
level: 10

for the most part on a lot of amps, the general result of it being engaged is that the amps overall characteristics are tightened up a bit. i love it in front of 5150s and a lot of people use it on other amps. honestly though kok, i would say that it would be kind of useless for something like a POD. they work best in front of tube heads (although ive heard them sound great in front of solid staters as well).

yeah blue pretty much nailed how I use it. If your using line 6 gear I wouldn't bother. I tried boosting some of thier stuff and did not like the results at all. They were originally designed for tube amps. Basically the louder signal then send hits the tubes in the preamp harder and gives you more drive/tightness. I was messing with this thing and my peavey classic 30. I was getting some rocking blues tones with the gain or "drive" turned up.

Ok, thought so.
I do have a tube amp (Mesa SimulClass 2:95)
But what youre saying is even w/ tube power it wont jive with the digital preamp?

I used to do this with a Mutron Volume/wah thru my old Marshall, and it was perfect for solos.

Related note:

Ive gotten some decent sounds with my POD, while recording direct.
Nothing earth shattering obviously, but definitely some worth saving.

However, as I said, nothing earth shattering, so my ? is, do you guys know any tips or gizmo boxes (besides a di) thatd help a direct POD tone?

I DO premix, and that helps A LOT, but I need more!!!!
Any help much appreciated.
Also.....since pod being pod is a direct box already, how much would I benefit from another standard DI?

[Feb 11,2007 10:02pm - Joshtruction ""]
you won't benny from a standard DI too much. a groove tubes brick on the other hand will work wonders with the sound through a PA DI. An overdrive is rather useless when you are using the pod. If you want to slam the power amp to get some tube break up all you have to do is crank the output of the pod.

Right, ok cool. Thanks man.
Would you recommend the brick for direct recording though?

I, in all reality, probably wont end up using ANY direct tracks in the final mix, but I really want to try to get a killer tone, for a main sound, because I DO live in a small apt, and my Mesa just does not turn down low enough!!

What we did on the In Dire Need EP was done with all line 6 amps. Granted we used cabs and mics, but the tone is 100% line 6. They ARE capable of making killer tones. It's just a pain in the ass to get it perfect. I think the brick would make a positive difference on the recording. You can also use it for bass and vocals too. It's just great sounding for most things. I was really suprised in the unit when I got mine.

hahahaha no TR808's here.

yeah, i never had a problem getting a great sound when i was using my POD pro. but i gotta say when it comes to line 6, i find that their second gen amps (pod 2.0/flextone II) offered their best high gain sounds.

I need some advice on paint scheme's. I want to do all the ones I make as professional as I possibly can. I will be powder coating and printing logo's/names on them. Since it's an overdrive and makes your signal louder I had the idea of red paint, confederate flag, and calling it "The Rebel Yell" but I don't want to piss anyone off. I was also thinking of going traditional green, and jsut calling it the JC808. What do you guys think? Anyone got any idea's?

P.S. Who wants to buy one!!!!
