Trippy as hell, nasty as hell, drumming is INCREDIBLE. Songwriting at it's peak....absolutely. I've absolutely disliked every album they ever did until this one......but for the past 2 monjths...I keep returning to this album over and over again. Opinions? |

| ______________________________________________ [Jun 28,2007 12:29am - MarkFuckingRichards ""] it took me a while to get into mastodon as well. when remission came out i heard it for like 8 months at friends' houses and never really got into it, but then one day i heard it again and something clicked. i think the overall appeal is that they're able to take thin lizzy style rock, make it technical as hell without killing the groove, and give it an extra kick so it transcends the line between rock and metal. that's at least how i see it. i can fully understand why people don't like this band; the style is definitely not for everyone. |

They definitely put together some interesting arrangements, but I get bored with them. I don't dislike this band, but I think they are waaaay overrated. |

I found their arrangements to be all over the place and nothing about their music was sticky. This new album however is full of nasty grooves; the drummer is truly amazing.....his style is VERY original and he never plays the same beat twice. The songs are very trippy and it's generally a fun album to listen to. |
