PORPHYRIA members seeking bassist/drummer for new project[views:13233][posts:59]_____________________________ [Oct 1,2007 9:48pm - blue ""] Tim (vocals) and I (Blue, guitar) are looking to start a new project now that Porphyria is currently inactive. We are currently searching for competent drummers and bassists to rock with us. Influences: Suffocation, Inveracity, Deeds of Flesh, Inherit Disease, Malignancy, Goratory, Psycroptic, Carcass, Spawn of Possession, Cannibal Corpse, Devourment, etc etc etc... Drummers: -Must be over 21 -Must be proficient in extreme metal styles (i.e. BLAST really well/groove also mandatory) -Must be able to hit hard (Don't care if you use triggers, you'd better be able to pull it off without) -Must have professional equipment (your Pearl Export you've had for 10 years isn't going to cut it) -Must have reliable transportation -Be able to practice once a week in the Manchester NH/Boston area, possibly more -Must have the willingness to record/play shows (possibly tour in the future) -Must not be racist, sexist, bigot or a general asshole Bassists: -Must be over 21 -Must be proficient in bass (fingerstyle/slap technique a plus, but were down with tha sick pickers too) - We tune to B, so 5 string bass is pretty much essential -Must have professional equipment (No, your 150 watt bass combo isn't going to work) -Must have reliable transportation -Be able to practice once a week in the Manchester NH/Boston area, possibly more -Must have the willingness to record/play shows (possibly tour in the future) -Must not be racist, sexist, bigot or a general asshole If you meet these extremely precise requirements, you may possibly be ready to lay down thick slabs of brutality. If someone's good with whatever they use, can shred, and it sounds good, it doesn't freakin matter. |

A lot of pick bassists that I see end up being hacks and can't finger tap, play arpeggios or do shit exactly, a ton of picking bassists out there are just douches that are playing 'a bigger guitar.' im looking for a bassist, someone who knows how to be a rhythm player. i play pick bass in RGUT because its a fast grind band with distorted bass and the definition doesnt matter at all. i also play fingerstyle bass in situations where is is called for. for a technical death metal band? yeah, id probably want someone who doesn't play full on fast with a pick. but im open to ideas. |

Seems like someone is real defensive about being a pick-bass player. If you're a good bass player you could play it in any way. I played with a pick in AxRx, but that's not really going to fly in a tech-death band. It's about knowing what's appropriate. |
