More Somerville crack fun! ---- SOMERVILLE - Police arrested three men reportedly trying to make crack cocaine in a van on a public street on Feb. 15, and seized a variety of drug paraphernalia. Responding to Kingman Road at 8:15 p.m. for reports of men smoking pot in a van, Somerville Police officers Richard Lavey, Alan Monaco and Daniel Rego found three men in a blue van parked at the end of the street. As they approached, they reportedly saw known defendant Robert Michael Vallery, 44, of 59 Albion St., reach into his lap, and driver Thomas Albert Ryan, 45, of 17 Kingman Road, reach towards the floor of the vehicle. All three were asked to come out of the van. As they got out, Monaco reportedly noted a small glass pipe on the floor where Ryan had been reaching. As Vallery exited, Lavey reportedly saw a knife on the passenger seat. A second pipe was reportedly found on the floor next to a third man in the van identified as Daniel Sensale, 42, homeless, of Somerville. Officers found the glass pipes had burn marks and a bit of steel wool stuffed in one end, consistent with pipes used to smoke crack cocaine. A search of the van then led to the discovery of two bags of a white powder believed to be cocaine, as well as a box of baking soda, a can cut in half and some more steel wool. The can also had burn marks on it, and the paraphernalia found reportedly convinced detectives that the defendants had been trying to make crack cocaine. The items were seized, and all three men were charged with drug possession and taken to the police station to be booked, according to the report.
