Here are some tips to drive in a more environmentally friendly way. We hope you find them helpful!

On the Road

Avoid unnecessary idling: Long idles increase pollution and waste fuel. If you’re going to idle for more than 30 seconds, you would save gas by turning off the engine.
Lighten the load: Excess weight can decrease your gas mileage, and luggage on roof racks can increase drag.
Drive sensibly: “Jackrabbit” starts and stops can lower gas mileage by 33% on the highway, and 5% in the city. One second of high-powered driving can produce nearly the same carbon monoxide emissions as a half hour of normal driving.
Follow speed limits: Driving 65 miles per hour instead of 75 can save 10% in fuel economy, and dramatically decreases tailpipe emissions.
Use air conditioning moderately: Air conditioning consumes fuel, can increase NOx emissions, and uses environmentally damaging fluids.
At the Garage

Follow a preventative maintenance schedule: Following the owner’s manual and recommended maintenance schedule can improve your fuel economy by 4% and enhance engine performance.
Use the recommended grade of motor oil: Motor oil labeled “Energy Conserving” contains friction-reducing additives to improve fuel economy.
Keep your tires properly inflated and aligned: Proper tire inflation can save 2-3% in fuel economy. Tires can lose one pound of pressure per month, so check your tire pressure regularly.
At the Pump

Use regular octane: Higher octane fuels offer no benefit, decrease fuel economy, and are more expensive.
Purchase ethanol blends where available, if you have a flexible fuel vehicle: Ethanol blends are often cheaper, reduce carbon emissions, consume less petroleum, and use a renewable-based fuel produced domestically.
Re-fuel carefully: Spilled gasoline pollutes the air when it evaporates, and could leak into ground water.

if I road my bike... 44 miles on the highway each way won't be bad, but you can't bike on the highway. I mapped it out once and non-highway it's like 60miles one way.
