I got a pretty good hd tv last summer and have been using my xbox for dvd viewing. I never got a hd player or anything like that. Anyway, My fucking 360 broke this week, It basically, turns on and works I guess, but I dont get any visual/signal going to my tv. So I tried it on my bassists tv through his cables and figured that its my box and not the cables. Either way, I am broke and cant afford a new player, new xbox or money to get it fixed. I do however have an older 07 I think phillips dvd player. So I want to hook it up till I have money to do something else. I plug it in and its working fine, but the picture is black and white.

Question 1, Is my tv fucked up or do I have the dvd player plugged in wrong?

Question 2, Does anyone know whats wrong with my 360, anyone had this problem? It's not a red death issue, I already had that shit happen, the lights are green.

Are you running the DVD player in the same input as the xbox? Did you not get anything through your friends tv with either player?

Havent tried the dvd on his yet. The xbox had hd cables so they are seperate and I use component one for the xbox and component 2 for the dvd. And there is no straight up rca cable input either, it has a green one on it. which leads me to a third question

Whats with the green input on the back, and is that why I get b@w?

The inputs are very confusing, but I have tried all the different combos.

Component...should have three separate inputs for the video (Red, green, and blue) From what I'm assuming, you're plugging the video output to just one of the three?

Is there just no such thing as rca ins anymore for hd?

And am I basically fucked as far as getting this bitch going in color anytime soon?

it sounds to me like you are plugging component into composite plugs. If that is true, it is VERY bad.
HD TVs usually have 2-3 RCA (3-plugs) and 2 component (5 plugs).

But Rev, so am I about to blow this thing up with the rca's?

Now I am scared and about to loose my shit and just throw the whole fucking thing out my window lol.

I'm going to have a smoke and relax for a moment and read a bit.

You've gotta have RCA on your tv. They all come with a min of 1. fuck they all have s-video. Who the fuck uses s-video anymore?

Wow you'd think you're hooking up a 7.1 surround system with optical cables and many other electronics. Haha It's simple man!

It sounded like the inverse, like he was plugging composite into component jacks.

There has to be a composite input on your tv. That's the one you want.

Ok, so my question is, with just my rcas can I some how get it to work in one of my 2 component ins? like a special combo or something, or do I have to buy some other additional shit.

It just gets old watching movies from my fucking laptop.

Don't put rcas in component inputs and/or vice versa.

According to the specs listed on amazon, there's 2 hdmi, 2 component and 1 composite all up in the rear.

Hey Dan, can you post photos of the jacks on the XBOX? I might be able to offer some suggestions as to how you can fix he XBOX problem.

Contact Microsoft and they'll give you a new Xbox. Seriously, the failure rates are so high on those that they'll let you just ship it back to them, and they'll give you a new one plus like Microsoft points towards more free merch.
