how can a gaseous ozone lair have a hole in it? it's fucking gas. smoke a bowl and exhale, do you see a hole? (other than my wicked sweet o ring) how the fuck can gas have a hole?
The hole in the ozone layer is not a cookie-cutter style hole. The ozone layer has different thicknesses in different parts of the world. Above the south pole it has always been thinner which is why depletion due to CFCs led to a "hole". Its really just a gradient of thick and thin and they called the thinnest spot a hole.
To think of it in a less "hole" type of way, it's actually a change in the density of particles in a given place.
