Gov. Patrick Declares State Of Emergency BOSTON (WBZ) ― The MWRA says water service in communities east of Weston has been interrupted because of a break in a major water pipe. A MWRA spokesperson calls the break "catastrophic." Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Tom Menino have declared State of Emergencies for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the City of Boston. A boil water order has been issued for drinking water for all MWRA communities east of Weston until further notice. That includes 38 communities including Boston. In addition the agency says emergency water conservation measures are being implemented in the impacted communities. People with questions about the boil water order and declaration of emergency are asked to call 211 or 617-635-4500. MWRA is using its emergency water supplies including Sudbury Aqueduct, Chestnut Hill Reservoir, and Spot Pond Reservoir. This water should not be used for drinking, but can be used for bathing, flushing and fire protection. The leak is located where the MetroWest Water Supply Tunnel meets the City Tunnel on Recreation Road. Watch: Raw Video of the Aqueduct Break The break is in a pipe that is 10 feet in diameter. Water is leaking into the Charles River at a rate of more than 8 million gallons an hour. MWRA has crews on site, and engineers are working to determine the next steps. Updates will be posted on Mass.gov and MWRA's website at www.mwra.com or www.mass.gov throughout the event. Here is a complete list of the affected communities: Arlington Bedford Belmont Boston Brookline Canton Chelsea Dedham Everett Lexington Lynnfield Water District Malden Marblehead Marlborough Medford Melrose Milton Nahant Newton Norwood Peabody Quincy Reading Revere Saugus Somerville Stoneham Stoughton Swampscott Wakefield Waltham Watertown Weston Westwood Wilmington Winchester Winthrop Woburn
