| __________________________________ [Aug 21,2010 8:40am - ShadowSD ""] Also wanted to point out (because of that other comment) that this is really the last show to accuse support bands not getting a fair shake in comparison to the headliner, since the food is being served at the beginning specifically to get everyone there early so all the bands playing at the beginning have a big crowd, if we really were looking out for only ourselves we'd just have the food right before we played. Instead we're encouraging everyone to get there over four hours before we hit the stage, with the hopes that we can hold most of them there as a headliner for the duration of the night; that's hardly a way to stack the deck in our favor. Also the reason we are headliner is not just because we're putting it on, it's because we are putting a higher demand on ourselves than the other bands in terms of draw, based on our proven ability to do that in the past, an ability that wasn't there until after many years of us paying dues as a band in 2002-2003 where we played almost a hundred smaller shows we didn't headline. It took us a long time and a lot of work to get to where we were headlining on a regular basis. I wouldn't want people to think we just arbitrarily stuck ourselves in there. |

Didn't plan on going given so many weak bands but a few friends who were going had chipped in on an extra lawn ticket for me, figured it would be good for promoting CTMetalFest if nothing else (and it was - I sold almost twenty tickets there, handed out a shitload of flyers, and got the OK from Stephen Wayne for WCCC to push it on-air during their Saturday night metal show this week) But yeah, lots of boobies - and the three main acts were so good that I was surprised, each better than the last; I can't believe how good Ozzy's new band is and how Vince Neil and Mick Mars sound better than they have in twenty years. I was sure both Crue and Ozzy would have continued deteriorating live, not to have bounced back like this, it was the last thing I expected. I also think all the shitty metalcore for most of the show is a direct effort to make the bands at the end sound even better in comparison, kind of the same as how only Ozzy's band members and guitar solos got close-ups on the video screen, or how most bands are stuck on the second stage even though the main stage is empty at the time - all unnecessary handicaps considering how good things genuinely sounded for the last few bands successively. At least the place is big enough that you can walk away from and ignore the crap bands, and the unexpected appearance of Kenny from Type O added a lot to the band he filled in for, which would have otherwise been pretty uninteresting. Plus got to meet a ton of cool people. |

Joints of kindbud everywhere, tons of food, and kick ass metal, thank you to all the bands who played and made this night a success, the final ticket count was close to one-hundred thirty tickets sold. I see now why Engraved has such good word of mouth, they are just a great band, their guitar harmonies sounded especially sick in that place. Shotgun Trust was just INCREDIBLE with their covers of Children of The Sea/Holy Diver and Bark at the Moon, the singer/bassist does the vocals to a tee and their guitarist is Zakk Wylde Part 2. As for the rest of the night, Katahdin was even better than the last time I saw them, and it was good to see Eyes of Wrath and Face First for the first time. Save The Day's singer blew, but their guitarist and drummer have potential considering this was their first show and they canned the singer the next day, so I'm confident they can improve with time, they're only in ninth or tenth grade. Overall just an awesome night, and I can't wait until we play this place again on October 9. |
