That being said, the idea earthquakes would follow the ring of fire as the pressure is "equalized" so to speak makes some sense. I think of it this way: Imagine trying to cork a bottle where the cork is just slightly too big. (I don't know why you'd cork a bottle, just finish it you pussy, but for the sake of argument...) You'd likely end up pushing in one side first, then applying pressure around the circumference until you made it fit. Its not a perfect analogy, but you get the drift... |

And coastal villages and towns in that part of the world = tons and tons of poor people. Haiti was pretty bad but because they are a very poor country with weak leadership an a high crime rate, everyone wanted to donate. Japan on the other hand, being the more "civilized" areas hit and one of our closest allies (not to mention the 3rd largest economy in the world) , is different in many regards. The have the capacity and infrastructure to keep moving and assist those who are in need of help. There's no doubt that all three incidents were all grave situations, but Japan is a big boy and can handle themselves better than the other areas. That's not to say they don't need outside help; but rather they don't need as much. Long live Japan |
