I drove all the way out to shitty worcester to see black pyramids return. big fan, probably saw them many times before most even heard of them. and lets just say I left with a sour taste in my mouth. the new guy daryl is a much better at live guitar and didnt mess up. but his vocals suck. andy could sing like no other person around and his vocals fit the band better. the new guy sounds like an american idol reject and is too old. the set they played was great and they were real heavy..but I couldnt get into the music because of the vocals. ive followed this band since day one and cant remember the last time I left disappointed. And the mosh pits ruin it for me. how can a person enjoy good doom when some idiot pushes you when you arent looking. like really dude? I'm here to see my favorite band without getting a hand in my face or a fist in my back. but anyways I wanted to say dont believe the hype of the new black pyramid because if you are like me and love doom vocals..this band isnt for you anymore. thanks for taking the time to read. all the best grahamB
Wish I had listened to this advice when I read it on this board. I'm also an old original fan who has followed BP since Day One. Curiosity got the best of me despite my doubts and I ended up at the show on Saturday night. Every band of the night was like this, the American Idol Reject style vocals, as you call them. Black Pyramid was the biggest disappointment. It's not just the vocals either. Andy's vocals weren't great, it was something else about his attitude and delivery, both in singing and playing. It's just too safe now, that incredible live energy and intensity is just totally vanished. Sure the new guy is a tighter guitarist live, but he's a ringer if I've ever seen one. And he has no stage presence whatsoever. I have to say that I was bored, and that has never happened at a BP show I seen before this one. This band is over for me, can't believe they went this route instead of just calling it something else. The new song was nowhere in the same league as the older material, it was dull and generic with none of that metal energy, a huge step downward. It was not Black Pyramid, this is a different band.
