____________________________________________________ [Jun 30,2012 5:18pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] I believe I'm going tomorrow. Pease is pretty thin this year. I'm mostly going to check out the static displays. I think I am also attending the Maine air show as well as the Westover one this year too :D |
____________________________________________________ [Jun 30,2012 5:19pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] Also, Black Diamond Jet Team's site was saying they were down to only 2 L-39s this year :( Not the full team. And no MiG 17. |

_______________________________________ [Jun 30,2012 10:11pm - the_reverend ""] Much closer than me there, but I took a crap load of pictures. The past couple days have been MUCH more awesome than today. Idk if it is cause I was at home the whole day and it was slightly over cast. The fat Albert thing was LOUD. |
_____________________________________________________ [Jun 30,2012 10:25pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] More pics from one of the nerdy plane forums I visit: 439th AW C-5B [img] |

_____________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 3:07pm - the_reverend ""] Watching from lawn, porch, Home Depot, and the Asian market. I live like a mile from there. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 3:24pm - the_reverend ""] Blue angels should be here any second now. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 3:44pm - the_reverend ""] Finally |
_____________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 4:22pm - the_reverend ""] M'eh. Blue angels were much better yesterday, but all the other planes were better today. Except, I didn't see the fat albert today. |
___________________________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 7:30pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] I thought Fat Albert wasn't around the whole weekend. Was it around yesterday? At any rate.. it's undergoing maintenance. There was a different C-130 with them for this show nicknamed "Ernie". Same as Fat Albert, but just with the drab grey paint scheme instead of the fancy high-gloss Blue Angels paint job. |

___________________________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 7:38pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] Here's Ernie: [img] |

_____________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 9:36pm - the_reverend ""] ok, the "fat albert" isn't painted like it is on the web? |
___________________________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 9:48pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] Fat Albert is painted up like the Blues. Ernie is literally just a plain ol' C-130 pulled out of service to fill in while Fat Albert is under maintenance. I believe the only difference between Fat Albert and any other C-130 is the paint. F-18s that the Blue Angels fly are only slightly modified. I read that aside from the paint scheme, the only difference between their planes and F-18s in active service is that they're fitted with the smoke canisters and also have something else in their fuel tanks to supply fuel to the engines a little bit easier while they do more inverted tricks. Active fighters don't need to be upside down for extended periods of time so they're not needed I guess. If needed for war (I'm guessing world war 3), the Blue Angels can be repainted and put back to "stock" in 5 hours. |
___________________________________________________ [Jul 1,2012 9:50pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] The C-130 is a pretty old cargo plane by today's standards, but it's still fucking impressive. The thing can stop on a fucking dime when it lands. So unnatural to see something that huge moving that fast stop so quickly on its own. |
______________________________________ [Jul 2,2012 12:05am - the_reverend ""] So that was Ernie? I saw it from a distance Friday when it was rattling my house, but when I looked closely today, no paint. |
___________________________________________________ [Jul 2,2012 6:38am - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] Yupyup. |
_____________________________________ [Jul 2,2012 9:13am - the_reverend ""] ok, when I saw it from my house, it was blocked by trees. then when I saw it for rizzle, it wasn't painted. makes sense. |
_______________________________ [Jul 2,2012 11:58am - yummy ""] There was an airshow in Quonset 2 weeks ago. First one I've been to in over a decade. Aside from being able to see/hear them from my house my father insisted we went every year. Standing on hot pavement, with no shade, staring up into the sun is unforgiving to someone with my pigment. However, I walked over to check it out and although I have no nifty pictures I was impressed. Plus they've really added to the theme park aspect. Granted there were no roller coasters there was plenty to do. The super trampoline, rock wall climbing, a couple water rides, 3d rides, basically a carnival at an airshow. And the people watching was unmatching. In the same instant you saw an overweight/but malnourished dude with open sores with not a care in the world about the mustard stains on his old school Simpsons shirt, you'd see the hottest girl in the fucking world. I still will never understand how somebody got a C-130 off the ground. I have a vague idea of how that works but for as loud and heavy it is it is well controlled. Thats my contribution to the airshow discussion. |

A fine mix of American culture. I was tempted to go to the Rhode Island show. I passed it up in favor of the other 3 air shows in New England that had yet to happen yet this season :D |
___________________________________________________ [Jul 2,2012 6:34pm - menstrual_sweatpants_disco ""] PS: The Blues left Pease today and ended up at Logan around 2pm. [img] 2 C-130s, the C-17, and the C-5 also left. The 4 F-16s are still chillin' on the ANG end of Pease though. |
