mike_fod said:
Yeah, because we all know that metalcore or even hxc for that matter contains sweeps and leads in the songs. ... I don't get why if a band doesn't look a certain way (example: long hair, power metal shirts) people will label them hardcore or metalcore. I seriously think thats why people would call a band like Unearth 'core". Go by the music, because The Oncoming Storm has no skank parts, no chants, no hxc anything. Their breakdowns are closer to being Meshuggah stop and go riffs than anything by Hatebreed. The new Neurosis is great as well, and i'm glad I don't limit myself to what music I listen to, or else i'd be missing out on tons of great bands out there. Metal or not.
i don't limit myself to music i listen to. i give everything a chance. i've seen unearth before and i hate their songwriting. i never said they sucked at their instruments. they are definitely good players. they're very tight live, it's just the actual song structures i don't like. i don't care what bands look like. i realized a long time ago that judging a band by the way the members look can cause you to miss out on some good music. i ignored pain of salvation for a while because i saw that a couple of the guys in the band had nu metal haircuts. when a friend actually made me listen to them, i realized they weren't nu metal at all and they became one of my favorite bands.
