The playing on this album is so flawless it makes me want to quit playing music altogether. This album defines dedication and talent. Not quite as br000dal as Onset, but still goes above and beyond.

Amazing album. Not as putrid or brutal as onset of putrefaction but some how its even more technical and involved. 10 out of 10

yeah. This is in my top five deathmetal records in the past couple years. I can play Symbiotic in Theory on drums now, and most of Stabwound. Real hard drums. You can tell that a guitar player programmed them first, and then marco learned how to play them before the recording. They aren't written like a drummer would write, i love it. All the cymbal accents are the parts that make the drums really complicated. I can blast like he does without a problem, but with the real subtle accents on all the cymbals, and the single strokes that play over the bar lines... it took some practice to get.

If you haven't seen this band play live, do it next time they come around. I saw them on the carcass "exhumed to consume" tour in NY with the best sound i have ever seen at a deathmetal show. It was insane. I could hear every note that muhammed hit. Unreal.

Don't be ignant, Yeti.

Yeah, I hear you on the drums dude. I find myself listening to drums on the album like "how the fuck is that humanly possible?" I haven't seen them live yet because I suck at life, but I definitely want to catch them next time around.

Necro/Carcass tour must've of been killer for sure.

Except that Marco didn't play on this album.

I agree. It's crap.

If you think good playing is precision, great, but like Meshuggah, this is precision based on a few techniques and not much else.

Listen to Atheist "Unquestionable Presence" or Gorguts "Obscura" or even Pestilence "Spheres" or Cynic "Focus." That's great playing. Meshuggah, Necrophagist, Behemoth etc are all just "technical" playing.

And the music sucks. It's a cop-out.

i can't agree on Meshuggah, i love their music. but the rest yes. i cannot understand the hype behind Necrofaggots, they offer nothing but bland, boring "modern popular metal" and disguise it as death metal with a few tweaks of computer programs. they were so bad at the Carcass show.

i mean i can't agree on Meshuggah in terms of not liking them.

I prefer Meshuggah to Necrofaggots. Especially early Meshuggah, up through "None," which had more interesting harmonies going on.

even though i like ObZen, i'll take the early stuff over that any day.

wow. I understand not liking the music, but don't pull some "this is precision based on a few techniques and not much else" crap. Just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's not great playing. I like cynic, i like athiest, but there's no way to prove that one is better playing than the other. It's all subjective.
And what do you mean: "if you think good playing is precision" necrophagist is good playing because of the guitar counterpoint, (melody&rhythm) the phrasing, the grooves, maybe it's not what you like, but saying it's based on a few techniques and not much else is just silly.

and yeah, i forgot hans played on this..

i can't even stop talking about this....
Conservationist- I really do get not liking necro. Matter of fact i didn't like em at first, it was too slick, didn't really grab me. I had to give it a couple bowl sessions early morning lying in my lazy boy on a sunday to really get into it, but writting off the playing, as opposed to just saying you don't like it seems strange to me.

Necro was great at the carcass show in NY, where the sound was MUCH better then the palladium. I was with people who were at both shows and they didnt like the palladium one either. They said you couldn't hear anything. And as far as meshuggah, I love them too. Well, up till Nothing at least. And as far as playing is concerned, how can anyone say either of those bands don't play great? Both bands not only rip, but they have fantastic feel too.. Again though, if your saying you don't like em, i get it. If your saying they're crap, i get that too. Those are opinions, and totally understandable, but to say their playing isn't great...

[Oct 9,2008 3:31pm - Yeti ""]
my biggest argument is that being good at playing doesn't mean you can write good songs. there are so many bands that waste talent by making mediocre music. i just find their music so unbelievably weak and boring.

[Oct 9,2008 3:34pm - ouchdrummer ""]
no, i didnt say it did. I wasnt arguing with you, i was sarguing with conservationist saying that they arent good players. Your obviously allowed to not like it. haha

Basic logic: if it's all subjective, you also can't disprove that one is better playing than the other.

I love this logical trap because it cuts to the root of modern "Objectivity" and its total falsity.

I think if you compare these bands to others you'll see how they fail to really go anywhere. The musical style is dumbed-down while pretending not to be, and as time goes on, that becomes more apparent.

Same with Meshuggah. There's nothing eternal or really impressive there, but there's precision playing. Reminds me of tech-death around 1993.

i've never heard sayings like that refered to as "logic traps".... what it all comes down to here, is that i disagree with this statement:

"I think if you compare these bands to others you'll see how they fail to really go anywhere. The musical style is dumbed-down while pretending not to be, and as time goes on, that becomes more apparent.

Same with Meshuggah. There's nothing eternal or really impressive there, but there's precision playing"

Because there is no way to say what music "goes anywhere" or which bands are "pretending not to be dumbed down". It doesn't matter, it really shouldn't bother me when someone says something that is blatantly an opinion, and states it as fact. But it does grate on me a little. And while a million things grate on me a little every day in life, this seems like another i should let go, and not let get to me. Alas, mr conservationist, our conversations will be cut off for the evining until i return to work tomarrow morning. Where as we will talk, debate, and joke about facts, theorys, and total bullshit. Take care my friend.

I think it's important to look at logic as a full science, and realize what implications relativity has for it.

Opinion and fact are not as different as you may think. For one, if something is said to be true, and someone else says that's just an opinion, they have to keep in mind that their statement, too, is just an opinion.

If you want a really interesting summation of this, check out The fourfold root. It is eye-opening.
