Bands Needed For All Ages Show in Worcester

Bands needed for all ages show at Club Marque (right across from the Worcester Palladium) on Saturday, December 18 w/Sacreligion and Scattered Ashes. The show will be ten bands for ten bucks, I bring the PA, excellent sound provided.

Bands get custom tickets with all the band names and set times printed on each ticket so they'll be easier to sell. Each band gets to keep 100% of the money after their first ten tickets sold (so if you sell fifteen tickets, you make $50; if you sell twenty tickets, you make $100; if you sell thirty tickets, you make $200; etc.)

Sacreligion usually draws 20 - 30 people to this club just on their own, so considering there will be a total of ten bands altogether on this bill that are drawing, we are expecting a very good turnout.

If your band can sell at least ten tickets for this show, please contact me ASAP at shadow@neca.com for a slot.

with the line up at the palladium i think it'll still have a good turn out ! if it wasn't the same date as High on Fire and Conifer i'd come out !

I wasn't aware of the Satryicon show, but I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. A lot of Marque shows in the past have actually benefitted from having a metal show at the Palladium that same night, oddly enough... (maybe it's because there's a greater concentration of metalheads in the area?)

After all, when the Palladium opens its doors wicked late (which happens most of the time) and people who are bored waiting in line hear metal across the street, that creates the potential for a lot of walk-ins.

Also, if the Palladium show sells out and people get turned away at the box office, most of those people end up at the Marque because where else is there metal so close nearby.

i doubt the palladium show will sell out and isn't it a little late for bands to jump on this now? seems like flyers should already be posted for it...i don't want to sound negative...but i hear people complain about $6 shows...let alone $10 where the bands are not finalized yet

we played the marque while the power was out at the NEMAHF and i do believe some people heard it and walked over to check it out real quick. every little bit counts!!

p.s. it is true that if you sell fifty tickets you keep $400

it hasn't been decided yet...but $10 for 10 bands definitely sounds reasonable. i'd sure love to get some more RTTP bands on these shows.

So far confirmed for this show are Sacreligion, Scattered Ashes, and Stryk Nine. I'm waiting to get confirmation back from a couple more bands, plus I'm also expecting some references from Bluntface Records (Independent Metal Label with bands in NH, VT, and MA).

Since all the bands on this show have to sell at least ten tickets and Sacreligion always draws 20 - 30 at this place just on their own, there's no way the show can really 'bomb'. Even in a scenario with zero walk-ins, a ten band show with this setup would still sell at least 110 - 120 tickets (9 bands selling 10 tickets each + Sacreligion selling 20 - 30 tickets).

No matter how you look at it, that's a good chance for an underground metal band to get some exposure.

yea but club marque licks Rosie O'Donnel's scummy parasite ridden vagina... that place wouldn't know what exposure was if it shit in it's mouth. you're not really getting exposure if you're selling pitty tickets to your friends, we all know that.

Only if the only people at the show are your ten friends.

In the scenario I just described, there's at least another HUNDRED people at the show who will see you that have never heard of you before, that IS exposure. (Hell, I think fifty new people hearing your music is worth it for an underground metal band to bring down ten friends with them, don't you?)

Yes, absolutely, I don't care if you sell a hundred tickets on your own, you'd keep $900 and I wouldn't ask for penny more.

One of the best benefits of this pay system is that all the money passes hands between myself and the bands before the clubs can even touch it. So there's no way a club can turn around and ask for a bigger cut, or claim that you got drew less people than you actually did.

Bands need to educate themselves on "pay to play" and seriously consider if this is a system they want to support. A quick Google search for "pay to play"+bands+promoter or something similar will plenty of articles with food for thought.

It blows my mind that bands would all agree to give up $1000 cut of the door to the venue & promoter (with no incentive or costs to promote with this system) in order to play a last minute show with regional bands on the night of a huge show across the street.

Is the venue even taking a cut of the door on top of bar sales? Bands might break even or make money, and shows should make the venue and promoter money too, but bands should ask themselves if they're happy with what they're buying for their money. It could be good sound, guest list, cheap/free food or drinks, security, good set length, good slot # on the show, space to sell merch, time and money into promotion.

I don't know ShadowSD or have a clue what the other details would be other than the promise of great sound, and this is nothing personal. There are plenty of places around that book like this and some are worse deals than others. I just think that bands that should have the guarantees, not the promoters, and it's bad for bands and bad for the music scene when people let that switch.

Exactly, it's a matter of principle, not a matter of not being able to sell the tickets. Promoters rely on the talent of the bands, and if they have a better chance of making money than the band, that's fucked up.

I think the pay to play thing is bullshit, granted I am not a huge level promoter but when the promoter makes money and the bands do not, then something is wrong, that goes for any level of the game.

if the band holds up their end of the deal they can do just as well as or better than the promoter...at least the way this situation works. being able to keep all the money after the first ten tickets can really help you out if you sell like 25 or 30 tickets

Pats totally right. fuck pay to play. I've played for free more times then I can count, but I dont know why I'd EVER go out of my way to play a show that I had to pay for. Im a drummer, not a salesman. if I liked hawking tickets I'd stand outside fenway all day, not start a band.

its always fun to play for an audience though. the only thing that sucks is that it is a risk to put up money like that but sometimes it can work out to your advantage.

but don't get me wrong...we always have a good time playing whether it be at practice, in front of 10 people, or in front of 500 people...that's all that matters right? i believe they used to call it "rock and/or roll"
