Not that i think it would work with anywhere having a population of more than 5000, but alas: The government of Svalbard can, at any time, kick you off the islands if you show that you cannot support yourself, or if you are to much of a burden on the government. Great rule, although they do let almost anyone TRY to live there if they want to. You have to get a visa just like to most countries, but there is a coalition of something like 20countries that technically own the right to live there/mine coal there. | __________________________________ [Sep 19,2008 9:13am - darkwor ""] I work at Worcester State, and for every dumb suburban frosted blonde and college night redsox hat/guido/ski jump guy type that are only here because they HAVE to go to school to please their parents, or because they just have no idea what they wanna do so they become business majors (all a little harsh i know), there's an immigrant from Africa, China, India, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and so on, that are so psyched to be able to go to school and learn and work their ass off. Biotechnology, Mathematics, they're our future engineers and doctors. It seems like a generalization but from graduating from here and working here (basically living here) for over 5 years altogether, it's all become more and more apparent. I work in IT here and from examining where the data flows, I have the benefit of being able to keep an eye on what's going on. I walked past a group of 30 Chinese students this morning that I know have been here for a month and they'll stay here until they get their masters and Ph.Ds. It's like that in every school around here. Some intend on staying but most intend on returning home and using their knowledge there. While the frosty blondes are getting their trendy and useless Psychology degrees. |

| _______________________________________ [Sep 19,2008 10:06am - orgymf@work ""] it's not that we should close the doors to immigrants. it's that we should put more effort into taking care of our own, before trying to take care of the rest of the world. it's letting illegals off the hook, and trying help other countries that put our country so far in debt....that and the war. i think they need to crack down on border security, kick out all illegal immigrants, and put a pause on immigration until we get a handle on the overpopulation thing. otherwise we'll end not being able to drive anywhere because the roads will all be one big traffic jam, we'll have to hire people to pack passengers into the subways (like japan), and we'll have an even weaker economy because there will be more people, less money and less employment oppurtunities |
